Would you recommend Total Access Analyzer? Is it straight forward to use. Thank you. Fay

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerMarch 16, 2007 at 1:44 am #1056429I don’t use Total Access Analyzer, so I cannot comment on its use. I find the price of US$299 rather steep; on the other hand, if you’re sure you will be using it intensively, it may well be worth it.
(I use Find and Replace from Rick Fisher Consulting, which makes searching and replacing across all objects in a database very easy, and which can generate cross reference documentation for a database. At US$37, it is a lot cheaper)

AskWoody LoungerMarch 16, 2007 at 2:38 am #1056435I haven’t used the product in 2003, but I didn’t care for it in earlier versions and I have always felt it was overpriced for what it did. I would be very careful about so-called “unused objects”, since they may not really be unused. The easiest way to discover this is to turn off any name autocorrect settings and then rename all the queries you think might be unused. Then start opening the queries, one at a time. That will let you know which ones are referenced in other queries, although they might not be used in code or in interface objects. Try to run the application and you’ll start discovering the queries that are called in code or used in objects. It isn’t as pretty as the FMS product and it takes time, but it’s a whole bunch cheaper and at least as reliable.
