Any chance the topic start date could be visible when viewing a forum? Makes it easier to spot new topics since last visit.

There’s a handy bunch of links on the right-hand panel, for new posts in the last day-to-month etc. That should achieve the result you seem to be after. Just below the search for topics links are recent posts, also very helpful.

In terms of seeing the day a topic was started, by clicking on the Comment on the AskWoody Lounge link on any topic, the top post shows the date/timestamp of the original posting, and a link to the full blog post. You will also see the timestamp directly under the topic heading, on the home page.

      Happy browsing!

      Woody,

Are you aware that this “Comments are closed.” appears on many pages where I have ‘Replied’ on, including this one.

What I would like to see at the top of the ‘Reply Pages’ is the original AskWoody Blog Post that the Replies are connected to, I believe like before. Is this possible or Coming?

      Best Regards,

      Crysta

Yes, I noticed that about the “Comments are Closed” thing as well. It appears below the “Submit” button on all threads I’ve looked.

Also on seeing the day a topic was started. While clicking on the topic link will show you, it’s an extra step that could be removed by simply having it with the thread title right there for all to see. There’s plenty of extra space there to find a place for it, ya know? The more information that can be shown to people browsing the forums without any extra steps taken, the more user friendly it is. Anyway, just a thought.

I also miss how it would tell you (on the AskWoody home page) how many comments currently existed on a topic without clicking on anything. It is a matter of convenience is all and it’s now missing. For example, it used to say “No Comments” or it would say “X comments” with X being the number of comments that existed. Clicking on it would then open the comments section to the topic, but this has been replaced with a link that just says “Comment on the AskWoody Lounge”, so it’s less information that what was there before.

      Just my 2cents. 🙂

Comments were closed on this Topic because I screwed up! I think it’s fixed now. Sorry. If you hit other Topics with comments closed, yell real loud.

The number-of-comments link on the old AskWoody has been replaced with a link into the new Lounge. I don’t know of any way to show the number of replies in the new Lounge. Sorry!

I’m still seeing it everywhere, also mentioned a few hours ago.

Weird. I’m posting this from an AskWoody Lounger account – no Comments are closed message here.

Lemme try with an MVP account and anonymously.

Ohhhhhh… NOW I see it. Yes, “Comments are closed” is below the submit button. I wonder why?

That gets back to your website builders employing Replies, not Comments, methinks? Part of the particular package they used…

(different anonymous) +1 to adding the start date to the topic lists. If I have to click into each topic to find out how old it is, well, I won’t do that, so I will simply miss topics of interest rather than wade through lots of topics of no interest. The “handy list of links” isn’t helpful here. It does not give me a way to identify “necro posting” on old topics, which a start date would do.

There are two ways to unsubscribe. The easiest is to click on the UnSubscribe link on the top of the topic page:

        Unsubscribe-1

The other is through your profile – click on your user name (the hyperlink in the left of any of your posts), select Subscriptions from the menu on the left, and click the pink X button next to any topic you wish to unsubscribe to.

The Notify me of follow-up replies via email can also be selected/deselected on any post.

        Hope that helps.

A problem noted in beta testing, but the previous method of changing its size manually doesn’t seem to be available.

I had another look at the text given in the quote, and removed the https link in it, which shrunk that graphic back down to size. Not exactly a magic wand, but if it happens again, that’s the edit to look for. Thank you 😉

In the “old” blog at the top of each article there was a link to the comments section for the article. The link indicated the number of comments. I found this useful: if there no comments I could skip to the next article.

Now, in the “new” blog there is always a link titled Comment on the AskWoody Lounge with no indication as to whether there are any comments. Often I click the link only to find there are no comments to read. This is not a major deal, but it does get a little frustrating. I could save ten seconds by not clicking the link if I knew there were no comments yet :-).

So my suggestion is to add the number of comments in parentheses – e.g., Comment on the AskWoody Lounge (nn) where nn is the number of current comments (0 if none yet). Besides simply indicating whether there were any, or none at all, this would also indicate the popularity and/or controversy of the article in question.

Generally, I think the Lounge is a great improvement.

Recommendation #1: There are several places (“Recent Topics” list, and https://www.askwoody.com/forums/view/latest-topics/) where the date that is shown next to a given topic is confusing and misleading, in my opinion. In both of these cases, the date that is shown is the date of the most recent reply in the topic, not the date of the start of the topic (unless there are no replies). However, in both of these cases, the topics are ordered by topic start date. I recommend either changing this date to the start date of the topic, or, if that is not possible, then remove the date.

Recommendation #2: Change “Topics Freshness” to “Recently Active Topics”.

Recommendation #3: Make “Topics Freshness” link more prominent because it’s very useful.

Great idea, but I don’t have a whole lot of control over the Search for Topics box. I can delete entries, if that’ll help, but I don’t see a way to move them around or bold any of them.
