    WindowsXP Pro,
Would like to hide the “Delete Browsing History”…. from the “Tools” drop down list so that a user cannot delete files from the ensuing dialog box pop-up.

    Thanks,
    Jason

But, then all one needs to do is turn on the History pane in the Favorites Center, and do the deleting from there. evilgrin

Thanks, never thought ’bout that one. I have hidden the ‘General’ and ‘Security’ tabs from the Tools/Internet Options dialog box without any difficulty. I found that that was the most likely place for the user to go. But now I have two more areas to contend with. Can we go ‘deeper’ to find a way to do this? Both the Tools drop-down and the Favorites History??

You need to use the Group Policy Editor. Start | Run | gpedit.msc. Then go to Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer. In the right pane near the bottom of the list you want to enable “Turn off ‘Delete Browsing History’ funtionality”.

Note: You can do this on a per user basis by enabling the same setting under User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer.

        Thanks Joe,
This sounds somewhat similar to the path for enable/disable the selected tabs in the Internet Options dialog box.
        I’ll give this a try.

        Ok Joe
This gets me the deletion of the Delete Browsing History option from the ‘Tools’ drop-down list, however, I still have the “History” option in the Favorites Centre drop-down. I see hundreds of choices in the area of Group Policy Editor but I’m unable to determine which one to choose.
        Help??

Check out the “Disable ‘Configuring History” setting. Its description seems to match what you are asking.

            Joe,

That did it! At first, was expecting NOT to see the pages at all listed under the ‘View History’ option, however, when I right clicked, lo and behold the choice of “Delete” was not available.
Thanks very much for you help. clapping

              Dave,
Thanks! After consideration of Microsoft’s infamous nature of duplicating/triplecating the same items to control the same things, I believe you’re right.
All your help previous well appreciated.
