Toolbars on the taskbar

Can someone tell me if I can edit the title of a toolbar displayed on my taskbar, please.

I’ve added “My Network Places” as a toolbar to my taskbar. The trouble is, it’s a bit on the wide side, but I’ve found no way of editing the title text, having singularly failed to find it in the registry. Windows won’t let me shrink the width of it, either.

My current taskbar is two rows high, and I want to keep it that way as I like the layout of the Quick Launch bar and the standard program tasks. It would be nice if I could have sme toolbars double height, and others not, but I imagine that that would be beyond the abilities of poor old Win2k. So, any chance of shrinking the label?

The attached image (somewhat telescoped in width, admittedly) shows you what I’m on about.

you can try playing with the “Show Title” and “Show Text” toggle settings by right clicking the TASK bar and enabling, disabling these …

That will totally remove the “My Network Places” title, and may give you some more room. The “hover text” when you mouse over the items still appears as it should to guide you if you disable viewing both of the above.

Unfortunately, if you turn off “Show Title”, then you get an entire list of the contents of the folder. If it has a lot of files and sub-folders, it ends up taking more real estate than the title did!

“Show Text” has no effect when showing the title.

Would a button on the taskbar not be just as easy (and much smaller)?

How do you capture the image of the taskbar (or anything else on the desktop) to post it?

“Alt+ PrnScrn” will give you the active window only.
But on both of these you will have to “Paste” them into some app.

If I put a button on the taskbar, then it’s just a shortcut. It doesn’t have the expanding capability that the folder does if you put it as a toolbar – in other words, I can navigate to any file in there without having to open Explorer (or at least, not opening it more than Windows has already opened it). At least, that’s what I believe. Let me know if I’m wrong!

I use PaintShop Pro to grab images from the screen. It allows you to configure the capture to be the screen, a window, or just some area I specify (which is what I did this time). I then used PSP chop the boring bit out of the middle of the image and make it fit better on the message.

All these “buttons” on the task bar are just folders sitting anywhere on your hard disk.

I would create a new folder in my own area of the disk called for instance “My Net” and copy into it the shortcuts you want. Then add this folder as a new task bar “button”. My Network Places invariably has mare ‘places’ than you need, since it seems to remember every network destination youve ever been to.

I agree the shortcut isn’t a flexible as the toolbar; but it is tidier!
