Hi all…. just came across this tip and thought it worth posting here just in case it has not been submitted before. To type any fraction [in this case 3/8] Do this:- Whilst holding the Ctrl key press the F9 once. In the brackets that appear type the following. eq f(3,8) NB note the space between the “q” & “”. Simply substitute the numbers to achieve the desired fraction. I also utilized the Auto correct feature to automate the action but note that when I pasted the formula it appears different. [See attachment] Cheers Dave.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 14, 2009 at 7:39 am #1181216The AutoCorrect dialog cannot accurately display a field code after it is saved. Does the AutoCorrect entry work, or did you need assistance creating it?
Hi jscher2000. No I did not need any assistance allocating the auto correct data, BUT something strange that I did encounter -rather odd, to me anyway- is the fact that if I type 38 at the beginning of a line (see attachment) that is how it appears but if I hit the space bar before the 38 the desired fraction appears!!!!! Puzzled yet again. Regards Dave.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 14, 2009 at 9:36 am #1181238If you type 38 followed by a space at the beginning of a line, AutoCorrect should kick in.
But AutCorrect is a bit fickle, if you make a mistake along the way and correct it, AutoCorrect may not recognize it even if you eventually typed 38 correctly. You can usually get it to work again by deleting the text and typing it from scratch.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 14, 2009 at 10:04 am #1181247That’s true, but this is more general because it allows you to enter formulae rather than just fractions
{eq f(GMm, R2)} will give you a properly formattedI’m aware of that, I was referring to Silver Fox’s EQ field. He has created an AutoCorrect entry that replaces 38 (with a backslash!) with an EQ field. But if you don’t type 38 correctly in one go, AutoCorrect may not “fire”.

That’s what I found Hans, Auto Correct is a bit fickle at times, I note that 1/3, 2/3,1/8,3/8,5/8 & 7/8 fractions are available in the “Symbol” menu each of which can be assigned a keyboard shortcut like e.g. Alt + 3+8 to give 3/8 and only cited 3/8 because it was used in the example I was referring to. However, if one wants to express 5/16 e.g. the { eq f(5,16) } string is one easy way to achieve it so this might come in handy for students doing maths etc. Regards Dave.
