I want to share a time when Woody was speaking of you, Susan, before taking over his seat at AskWoody. He had already announced an illness that plagued him, and was preparing to leave the site. I believe he was going to Thailand with his family, his wife’s homeland. From that point, it was Chris Husted who had posted a photo and update on AW in 2021 with an update on Woody and his family, that was the last I heard anything about him, until now.
It must have been difficult for you when the sad news of his passing came across your desk. At the time when he was preparing to leave AW, Woody made the announcement of his departure and you would be stepping in to take over the site. He had such great things to say, and positive feelings for your leadership and knowledge. My point is this Susan, you have done an incredible job leading us all on a path that is detail oriented and complex. Woody had to be impressed and most likely at ease because you were able to jump right into gear, never flinching. I admire your unrelenting efforts in maintaining a much loved and respected website for bringing together those who teach, and the community of tech oriented ownership that want to learn. We may not all agree on one subject or another for finding solutions, but there is a huge amount of respect here at the AW Forum.
Woody and you, along with the many MVPs and Managers, specifically @pkcano , @Kirsty and those who contribute to the AW Plus Newsletter, have shaped the tech world in excellent form. It’s all about human kindness and smarts in one place, thanks to all for your skills and compassion. Woody will be missed by a vast majority of friends and followers, he set the pace for “everything is possible” so let’s continue to give it our best shot, we are in this together. He was definitely one of a kind. I have him dubbed as “Woody the Lionhearted”, seems to sum it up on his fine character, may this kind and generous man rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to all who knew Woody. Most precious to him was his family, I hope they feel the warmth we give for their healing, in days and years to come. In remembrance of Woody Leonhard, 1951-2025.
