Title over angle headings in columns

I am having a hard time figuring this one out, partly due to not being able to explain what I want to do well to search for it, and I can not figure it out in Excel 2007.

I have some column headers that I have formatted with angled text (they are about 45 degrees to the right of vertical. There are three of them, and I want to have a title row above all three columns (merged cells) that is right above the tops of the columns.

The only way I can force this to happen is to have the top title row start with 3 columns, starting one to the right of where my column headers start and mess with the angle to make the borders line up.

Please let me know if my explanation is not clear and thank you for any light you can shed on this issue.

Right, you have skirted my issue by not having the borders turned on

I poorly explained the issue. The issue is, if the borders are turned on, they will be an angled flag that extends to the right of the corresponding merged cell above them. What I was trying to do was have the merged cell’s border match up with the angled flags.

The hack and whack way I got around it was to add a column to the left and right to make the angled flags reside inside a larger rectangle. I then turned off the interior borders so you could not really see what I did. The enclosed picture shows what I did.

HI Andy, I am looking to figure out the same excel issue. I am able to get the angled cells and the header to line up, but as soon as I edit or add rows it is messy. Did you figure out a way to solve this problem? Thank you for your reply -KM

Aj,

Try merging the two cells into the first on the left and two for the last cell on the right(A and B, J and K). Adjust the widths so that they are even. The borders will then work.

Note: I deliberately left them uneven in the image

Another hack and whack way would be to use Text boxes for the headings you want.
You can then place these textboxes wherever you want.

One more option is to use a shape for the border on the slanted titles since you can place and size the shape where ever you want just make sure to set the transparency! HTH :cheers:

BTW: I used regular boarders for the Groups.
