Either, your Dad is really fast and the clock still reads 6pm, or it is 360 minutes later so the clock reads 12 midnight, or it is any multiple of 360 minutes from 6pm

AskWoody LoungerJuly 19, 2005 at 1:12 pm #960884AAARRRRRGGGGGG – I keep making mistakes in my calculations / understanding!
One last try … 3927 seconds past 6pm or 7:05:27.
But this is only correct to 2 decimal places. A correct hour hand would be at 35.45417 minutes past the hour while the ‘incorrect’ hour hand is at 35.45 seconds past the hour

AskWoody LoungerJuly 19, 2005 at 12:58 pm #960881But midnight is a correct answer – it could have been the time that your dad first looked at the clock – that depends upon your dad, not the clock. After reflection, and re-reading the question, I gather that you are *actually* after the first possible time that your dad could have looked at the clock and noted that it was telling the correct time.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 19, 2005 at 1:03 pm #960862(Edited by Jezza on 19-Jul-05 15:03. The answer should be the first time that the clock was correct)
I was cleaning our very old mantlepiece clock the other day, given to us by my late Grandfather George. Whilst cleaning it I had to take off the hands to clean the clock face and then replace them. Happy with my work I wound it up and started it at exactly 6.00pm. As I proudly looked at my handy work I noticed that I had stupidly interchanged the minute hand with the hour hand by attaching them to the wrong axes. The result was that the hour hand moved 12 times faster than the minute hand. Calling my Dad around ( an expert in clocks) he looked at it and said ” But Jerry, it’s showing the correct time”
Question: If I had set the clock off at 6.00pm in the correct position, what time was it when my father first looked at it?
