Maybe the sender is using a small font.

Try sending an email to yourself and see how it looks..

      • #1347687

Well I thought that’s the dumbest answer, but and a big BUT, I tried it and my e-mail came back very readable with the font that I use. I guess that makes me the dummy. What I gonna do now.

    • #1347689

Yeah, I excel at dumb answers…

If this problem is only with one sender then email them and tell them to increase the font size when they send you an email..

Is the problem with just one sender or all the mail you get..???

      • #1347691

Yes that’s the problem it’s with all mail I get. I tried help and they told me about font adjustments in options but nothing I do enlarges the email fonts. So it’s probably something I’m doing wrong or not understanding. Look at my user name hat should give you clue as to caliber of man you’re dealing with:)

a lot of idiots like small fonts

in my email host i can reply to the message
then select all and increase MY font in the outgoing
to read what they originally sent okay

          pain but it works
easier than changing the small mind small font folks ideas of what is good to use

I’m using an old version of Tbird but try this…

In the main menu…select VIEW/MESSAGE BODY AS and make sure ORIGINAL HTML is checked.

You may have PLAIN TEXT selected.

      • #1347695

I have already got original checked, there are 3 choices on T-bird 15 1. Original HTML, Simple HTML and Plain text. It must be the default setting cause I never changed it. Suggestions

    • #1347696

Well, I don’t know what to say now..

      Obviously something is set wrong.

May you should re-install Tbird and see if it gets fixed that way…

Or, you could go to the Mozilla forums and ask there…

Unless someone else here has the answer…

      • #1347698

Well I did try a switch from Original to Simple HTML and things are looking much better. I just checked older mail and big improvement, when a new mail comes in I will get back.

    • #1347699

Well, you can keep tinkering with it or just re-install it and see if the default settings are used and it should be fine…

Usually what happens is it turns out to be the simplest thing to correct.

I am using ver 3.1, really old, but whenever I tried to upgrade I always had problems so just gave up and stayed with the old version..

My Columbo re-run is coming on at 8 and I have some ice cream to polish off but I will look some more in the morning and see if I can find anything.

Some email is too small a font for me, too. Usually, it is HTML, so I double-click it to open it in a new tab of TB, and then the entire page can be resized by some method or other…I use CNTL/mouse-wheel. Problem solved.

    • #1347845

Mine is set for “original HTML”, so if you find other problems with “simple”, then my method would work for you, too.

Why not set a minimum font size in Tools –> Options –> Display –> Formatting –> Advanced?

I always use this in Firefox and Thunderbird.

      • #1348884

Just press Ctrl+ (Ctrl and the + key) that will make the font bigger.

I had problems in FF with some sites, after setting a minimum font size a couple of years ago, so I don’t mess with that in FF or TB. Here’s a thread about it: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread//126190-FF-vs.-IE-page-rendering

After following this thread, I changed the TB font to Arial Black, while unchecking ‘allow messages to use other fonts’ in Advanced. Now I can read the WS Newsletter with greater clarity. I do not know if the minimum font size I set is working, as I had to C+ twice in order to read the original font used.

Changing font in TB has nothing to do with the font in FF, so any change made will have no effect on how the browser looks. Remember: TB=E-mail Client, FF=Browser.

Yes, I’m aware of that, but minimum font size is the lesser of two evils for me. Depends on what sites one visits, I guess. I also don’t like the typefaces used by many sites, so I override that too.

Fantastic idea! I just did this with Chrome settings, not just email, since the font is too small on everything. Had to click on settings and search with the word “font”, because specific terms in settings for Chrome are harder to find than in FF. Will see how it goes; until now I have had to click on control and + to make every page easier to read – larger.
        Thank you!

I use this add-on in Firefox, works fine; I’ve never used Thunderbird.

Also available for Thunderbird are at least a couple of the Zoom tools we’ve been using in Firefox. Some of these Extensions work just as well in Thunderbird.

Thunderbird also has its own Extensions for this and other special purposes. I recently converted from Thunderbird to Pegasus Mail, so I don’t know if this will work, but the “Monetzooma” Thunderbird Extension looks like the type of zooming tool the OP requires. It acts within the message pane only.

I had a similar problem. I then installed a newer version of Thunderbird on another computer, and it didn’t have that problem. Maybe they fixed the problem? Or maybe the settings were correct in the newer version? Not sure which.
