I need help with the latest version of Mozilla Thunderbird. I recently had to restore my machine (WIN 7 / Ubuntu 10.10 – dual boot) and can only download the latest version of Thunderbird. It has a great and painless setup but defaults to IMAP. All of my previous mail is in POP format. There are tools designed to allow you to import the old POP mails into the IMAP format but none of them work.

There is a method for stopping the automatic setup, and configuring Thunderbird manually with a POP account, and this works, but it is not graceful and it breaks the folders and naming of the inbox.

Can anyone help me figure out how to wrestle some common sense into this once great/now poor application? The LAST thing I want to do is resort to using MS “LOOKOUT” er, I mean OUTLOOK.

I’m going to move your thread to the forum for non-Microsoft email clients.

If you are interesting in getting the ear of a larger number of Thunderbird users, you could try the MozillaZine forums: Mozilla Thunderbird on mozillaZine Forums. But how to choose between the General, Support, Features, and Bugs boards for this topic? Hmmm…

Thunderbird should have been called ‘Thunderbox’ as any Brittish Army personell would.
