Our office (accounting/tax firm of 50 employees) is nearing its device refresh period. In the past we have usually purchased Dell Latitudes. Often, we purchased the highest processor available, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB of HD space, etc.

Dell has recently unveiled their newest line of Latitudes – which they are marketing as “AI-powered”. I know that AskWoody staff has been hesitant on Microsoft CoPilot and I’m curious about thoughts and/or concerns on this type of device?

It seems to be to be nothing more than a throwaway marketing slogan that means nothing.

I am one of those for whom “AI-powered” would be a rather powerful “never buy” flag… if I believed it. It seems to me, though, that it is just Dell’s way of saying that it comes with Windows, and Windows of course comes with Copilot.

I don’t think this unit is any different than any other PC of the same age, in terms of being “AI-powered.” You either buy into the Windows ecosystem, for better or worse, or you do not.

Acer Swift Go 14, i5-1335U/16GB, Kubuntu 24.04 (and Win 11)

which they are marketing as “AI-powered”.

      You can move to Macs.

Windows PC vendors are now mimicking Apple by adding Apple’s long years usage of NPUs (Neural Engine Unit) calling it “AI Powered”
