I am absolutely livid and completely fed up with having Windows 10 stuffed down my throat.
Last night during the wee hours MS apparently automatically upgraded my main machine to Win 10 and this morning when I started it up there was a blue “welcome to windows 10” screen.
What ??? I have NEVER agreed to install Windows 10, ever. Every time I see a Win 10 prompt I “X” out of it.

In the lower left corner of the welcome screen there was a tiny bit of text that said “I am not (name)”
So I clicked on that and it took me to a screen where you accept or decline the licensing agreement.
I declined and it said it would revert back to my old version, which I did, and after a while it restarted same as always. I figured good, that would be the end of it. WRONG!
This afternoon I was doing some spreadsheet work, and suddenly without any warning the screen went blank and then it said “shutting down for windows upgrade.”
For at least 45 minutes all I had was a black screen with a progress circle in the middle. Then after restarting a couple of times, boom; back to “welcome to windows 10”.
So I repeated the entire uninstallation procedure again. Now I am totally sick of Win 10.

How many times do I need to say “NO THANKS”?
How do I go about getting rid of the “upgrade virus” that seems to be stuck in my machine? (Looks like it is going to automatically re-install about every 12 hours.)
If MS thinks that stuffing this OS down our throats without our knowledge or acceptance is the way to market it, they are sadly mistaken. And they are going to lose many many long time Windows customers.
At this point I am very sorry I accepted the upgrade reservation back when it first started.

Any help appreciated, and sorry for the rant, but I find this rotten scheme of Microsoft’s really frustrating.

      Check this link.

Choose one of the tools, and when you are booted into your preferred version of Windows, install it.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.
We were all once "Average Users".

        OK thanks big time bbearren!
I installed the control panel and deleted everything Win 10 related.
Now I will set back and hope for the best..

For Microsoft to resort to these kind of sneaky underhanded tactics to try and doggedly coerce people to upgrade to Win 10, it makes you wonder what they have up their sleeve long term?
Total domination and world control maybe?
Or some sneaky marketing trick down the road where users will get stuck having to pay some exorbitant fee to continue using Win10, or it will be disabled, with no way to delete it, and no way to revert back to an earlier OS?
OK, so I digress. But you can bet that at the end of the day it’s all about the money. MS are not doing this just to be nice guys by any stretch.
The point is I have absolutely no faith or trust in MS anymore, after using their products for close to 30 years.
And I bet I am not alone. Nice going Bill !

I’ve had to use the GWX utility on two of my customer’s machines. It works.

In both cases, they got a pop-up asking if they wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 right that very second, or if they wanted to “postpone” it – for up to five days. There was no Red-X to cancel the window, you couldn’t close it, you couldn’t postpone it longer, task manager wouldn’t end the process. Worse, if you rebooted, you guessed it – you got Windows 10 when it started up again.

Choose one: Would you like for me to poison you right now, or wait until next Wednesday?

Check about once a month to see if there is an update for GWX Control Panel. If there is, install it.

      Group "L" (Linux Mint)
with Windows 10 running in a remote session on my file server

Even better, set up a Monitor at changedetection.com on the relevant GWX Control Panel webpage (say the downloads or the blog) to check daily if there has been a change, and receive an email message if there has.

      BATcher

Plethora means a lot to me.

Seems like a good idea! Thanks.
Well today everything is behaving normally, thank goodness.
No annoying Windows 10 badgering popups! Yahoo.
        Good riddance.

I forgot to say in my earlier post that I installed the GWX panel, and it seems to work really well.
It deleted all traces of Win 10 as far as I can tell, and that is the reason everything seems to be running pretty well now, some 24 hours later.
This is a nice little utility and I recommend anyone who is being bullied by Win 10 popups to install it right away!
