As is common (but not obligatory), the third Tuesday in June brought a bushel of non-security patches: Win10 1809 gets KB 4501371, with dozens of bug

GuestJune 19, 2019 at 8:01 pm #1849130No need to post this but Edge in 7, 8, 8.1 and will this(1) replace IE 1l after installed.
I’m not planning to preview but I hope that Edge will at leas have better live-streamed video support compared to IE11.(1)
“Microsoft rolls out previews of Chromium-based Edge for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1
Microsoft is rolling out the promised Windows 7 and 8 variants of its Chromium-based Edge browser to testers in the Canary channel.

AskWoody LoungerJune 20, 2019 at 10:39 am #1849921This Chromium Edge Canary preview for win7 v77.0.196.0 as of today web installer is available here https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/?form=MO12FW&OCID=MO12FW
It was installed today to C:\Users\…\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\ and performs nicely in a same way as Firefox or Chrome do. BTW, it seems to load videocard less than both ones above.
P.S. It doesn’t replace IE11. Also its video abilities are surely updated. Anyhow you can always test them online either here https://html5test.com/ or here https://www.youtube.com/html5
P.P.S. It’s already reasonably multilingual.

AskWoody_MVPJune 20, 2019 at 11:28 am #1849971I’m going to pass on that browser. If I do decide to get it, I will wait until it is well-aged and hopefully, debugged.

After reading this post and the subsequent post on advertising, I’m going to avoid Edge.

AskWoody LoungerJune 19, 2019 at 11:39 am #1848732Well, I’m sorry to say that it’s not completely correct.
If you’re on win7 then Preview of Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2, 4.8 for Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB4503865) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4503865/preview-of-quality-rollup-for-net-framework-june-18-2019 has been offered yesterday thru win7uc. Naturally as optional.
Also if you have .NET FW 4.8 installed on win7 then you’ll need the only 4.8 part the above preview as Description of Preview of Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 4.8 for Windows 7 SP1 and Server 2008 R2 SP1 (KB4502568) https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4502568/preview-of-quality-rollup-for-net-framework-june-18-2019 of some 32.5MB in total download. It has been installed manually and seems harmless.
The funny point of these .NET FW 4.8 updates on win7 is that if you install them manually thru .exe installer then this installer shows that it installs .NET FW 4.8.2, which is almost impossible within just a couple of months after the initial release of .NET FW 4.8
Pls refer to a pic below:

AskWoody LoungerJune 19, 2019 at 2:03 pm #1848812Nothing of that sort was pushed yesterday/today, nor I was able to pull anything new onto my 1809 PC.
All levities aside, I got rather unexpectedly (?) pushed KB4503864 yesterday evening.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4503864/cumulative-update-for-net-framework-june-18-2019
So, go figure.

AskWoody LoungerJune 21, 2019 at 2:19 am #1851164Does anyone have a clue, why MS is now delaying these third Tuesday patches for 1903 ?
Before 1903 was released, 1809 got similar delay treatment for monthly second round patches, but I was under impression this was because of 1809’s LTSB status and MS wanted to be just a little more cautious with it.
In my opinion, this kind of late month release schedule is rather frustrating, because it leaves little time between next month’s patch Tuesday and lots of time to enjoy things which were broken in current month’s patch Tuesday patches.
Like in this month: Event viewer.
There sure isn’t any reward to follow ‘latest and greatest’ version of Windows, except maybe that you don’t have to stay vigilant to fight unexpected feature updates.
