I was interested until I saw the cost. Not so much any longer.

      Wow.

These prices are ridiculous. Do they try to emulate Apple bussiness model? With MSFT devices? Hilarious. This decade, Microsoft showed itself as copycat, by my opinion. Which can be wrong of course.

I could buy a laptop and an iPhone SE for that price (and have a real computer and a real phone).

This is just the first step of Microsoft turning to Android.
Second step : ChromeOS replacing Windows 10.
Third step : Google buying Microsoft.

They might not be as insensate as they look…in a Depression, you go for two extremes of the economic ladder; The best-selling radios of 1933 were the Philco model 84 at $30, and any model over $140. Everything in between, along with other brands, got flattened.

Before the Great Depression, there were over 100 makers of radios in the US. By 1936, there were 16.

Looks like they’re aiming at the “Carriage Trade”, mebbe?

How do you hold that up to your ear? Oh, you’ve got buds so you don’t need to!

      Release the Algorithm!

Well, two phones for $700 each, not bad.

Wait, yeah it is bad, even Apple Addicts are pushing back on prices.

Looks to me like another tech product for people who have more dollars than sense.

In the Android world, three years is significant. There are many Android devices that never receive an OS update. There are many that will receive one in the first year of the device release and then none.

This is Microsoft’s world. They could support the DUO for 10 years with updates.

          • #2288454

If MS wanted to keep making phones, why didn’t they keep supporting the ones they made? I had the Icon and the 950. Like most owners, we loved them. Unfortunately, MS didnt like us back. I would not buy a MS hardware if they paid me.

Another opensource stolen to improve already astronomical incomes.
          Azure = linux
          Edge = chromium
          Surface Duo = android

Yeah, thats ethical as ****. I lost interest in this patching and support circus since its not improving quality as promised, but it just keeps bullying users and distracts IT admins. Every trouble shooting should now start with the question:
“What version of Windows do you use? And I want all 10 subversions too!”
I would like to know full list of known issues updates caused. It must be thousands and thousands last 5 years. Thats not improvement at all.

Personally, I don’t get the allure of a dual-screen phone at any price. Maybe that makes me a Luddite or something?

      • #2289137

I second that thought. I cant get rid of the feeling, that it looks like nintendo DS. I thought that folding screens are superstarts. Not basic two-screen device which has 1cm gap between screens and costs appox. as my one month salary.

        Also, is that true?

To make this happen, Microsoft designed its own custom Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), which enables full control over firmware components.

This also allows Microsoft to deliver enterprise-grade security to Surface Duo as the company is able to review every line of firmware code.

As a result, Microsoft says it can respond directly and agilely, to potential firmware threats and even “mitigate supply chain security risks”.

        Cause I read recently:

        Good grief.

I haven’t read one, single positive review of the beast – and it looks like MS sent out freebies to an enormous number of bloggers.

Never buy version 1.0 of anything from Microsoft. An oldie but goodie. I’ll take another look if/when v2 comes along.

iFixit gave the DUO 2 out of 10 for reparability

The Duo “is not something meant to be repaired, maybe not even by Microsoft”,
“sticky glue traps,” and hard-to-replace battery.
USB-C port being soldered to the main board, unconventional tri-point screws, and the “delicate OLED panels” that lack protection from “accidental prying.”
Duo’s battery “is such a messy afterthought, we’re not sure Microsoft considered it at all,”

      • #2296186

🙂 hilarious, Microsoft managed to break even Android updates! Maybe they can change their company name to MidasSoft – “All he touches turns to gold.”
In this case.. you get my point and sorry for rant/fun stuff here.

Thats the current attitude by MSFT. Release something and let people betetest it. On the photo from your post, it also looks like two plastic parts are starting to detach.
