The past is haunting me!

I use Microsoft Outlook (*not* outlook.com) for my email client. About 6 months ago, I read all of my new email messages, but there were still 3 “new” messages. I filtered on “not read” and lo, and behold, the 3 “new” messages were actually messages I had received more than a year ago! Thinking it was just a momentary glitch (for 6 months now…), I simply clicked on each message so it was marked as “read.” This has happened at least once or twice a week. Last week, there was a HUGE lot of them – almost 200 – which came down from the server again.

Any ideas what this might be? :confused:

Possibly a corrupted local file. Is it a PST or an OST?

It is a PST.

Is there a good way to find out if it is corrupted? And, if so, what can I do about it? It is 12.6GB.

Which version of Outlook are you running? Older versions did not handle large PST files very well.

After repairing your PST file, I think you should take steps to reduce the size of your PST file. Consider creating another data file and*moving older data to it – perhaps by year or whatever organization makes sense to you.

Are you deleting from the server as emails are received? If not, you could continue to receive the same emails over and over again. This is a per-account setting, and is found in Account Settings > More Settings > Advanced, then uncheck the box that says “Leave a copy of messages on the server”. If you have more than one email account, check that all of them are set correctly.
