What Edition of Wind10 (Home or Pro)?
      What version of Win10 (21H1, 21H2, 22H2)?
      What Build?
Type winver in the search box and press Enter.

What changes have you made lately? Updates? Installed new program, driver?

While I’m not familiar with your issue, I would grab a backup if you don’t have a recent one and do thorough scans with A/V malware programs

Sounds like your default font has either gotten corrupted or something changed it to a non-standard font that doesn’t include letters.

I’d suggest you check to see what font your system is set to use and, if it’s the standard font, replace it with a copy from either your backup or another Win10 PC.

If it’s been changed to something else, switch it back.

You could try these two things:

      First:
From CMD (wih full administrators priviledges):
      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

      After DISM run:
      sfc /scannow

      Desktop mobo Asus TUF X299 Mark 1, CPU: Intel Core i7-7820X Skylake-X 8-Core 3.6 GHz, RAM: 32GB, GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4GB. Display: Four 27" 1080p screens 2 over 2 quad.

Hello,  an update. First, thanks for the help. After I posted I ran Maleware Bytes and did something else and the symbols were gone. Tried DISM cmd and got an error 78. Ran sfc/scannow and did not come up with much. Now the issue is very tiny letters and words and when I open edge, firefox, or chrome, the windows are extra large and do not fit on screen normally.

        Thanks for your time,

        Russ

Sounds like your screen resolution is set too high (i.e. it’s set for 3840 x 2160 when your monitor only supports up to 1920 x 1080.)

Having it set higher that the monitor can support will cause those exact symptoms and the solution is to set it back to whatever resolution your monitor actually supports.

A little research suggests you are seeing DISM Error 87:

Often the DISM error 87 is a case of an incorrectly formatted command. Make sure to verify the command for incorrect spacing to execute it without the error. Also, run the DISM command in an elevated Command Prompt to fix any permission issues.

      Hello,

Thxs to all with suggestions. Unfortunately they did not work because I was missing a file and had to do a complete reinstall. Now I have to install everything. Trying to figure out how to retrieve windows.old and put it back on computer for all my pics and documents.

      Thanks again,

      Russ
