There is an associated SSU KB4470788. But the install sequence is causing the same problems as seen on 1803/1809 with the Patch Tues updates.

Woody, I’m a little confused by your two posts this morning. In your first post, you wrote that

I’m reading between the tea leaves here, but it appears as if KB 4469342 was released to the Insider Release Preview ring, then to the Win10 1809 masses at large, early this morning. It’s not showing up on my machines just yet, but there are reports popping up all over.

But then in your second post, you wrote that

The “C week” or “D week” non-security cumulative update for Win10 version 1809, KB 4469342, is going out to the Insider Release Preview ring, for testing before broad deployment.

That’s exactly what the Release Preview ring was made for. And it’s never been used correctly. Until today.

So is KB4469342 going out to the masses on the same day as it went to the Insiders, or is it going to the Insiders for testing before broad deployment?

A lawyer might argue that there’s no contradiction, as it could have been released to Insiders for testing for a whole couple of hours before getting distributed more widely, but I don’t get the sense that that’s the way you write for your readers.  🙂

I am sorry Mr.woody, but Microsoft have to work  harder to regain our trust, I am tired of all of its failures.  So until the day we no longer have to fear updates my opinion won’t change.

Just someone who don't want Windows to mess with its computer.

Judging by the subsequent two articles, I’m glad someone at Microsoft knows what they’re doing!

“Somebody at Microsoft deserves a medal.” ??

Although I’m glad there is some glimmer of hope, I’m still reminded of the apocryphal story of the firefighter who is called a “hero” by the media because he put out a horrendous fire that threatened life and property — only later to be exposed as the arsonist who started the fire in the first place… 😉

I thought Woody may be feeling ill myself until I realized Woody is using good old positive reinforcement. Something everyone should practice with their children. You have to recognize and acknowledge good behavior as well as bad in order for good habits to develop.  🙂

1809 initially being DOA may end up being great for everyone – maybe they’ve learned their lesson. Time will tell… we definitely can’t give them too much rope because they’ll surely hang themselves with it. I’m definitely optimistic though for once.

If the delay in making it available is any indication, it sounds like someone cares – at least a little – about the quality of the software they’re rolling out. I really hope this remains the case. I’m going to need to rely on Windows 10 soon for serious work.

Have to say, though… I’m kind of a dyed-in-the-wool Windows geek yet trying to keep up with the specific details of the v1809 release of Windows 10 got away from me.

I’ve only just managed to install v1809 in a VM and get it settled down. It was at 17763.107 at first, but I saw and installed cumulative KB4467708 from the catalog, mostly as a test of whether catalog installs still work okay (they do), and it went in smoothly and brought the build number up to 17763.134.

(Note that this is a system I’m specifically setting up for testing and tweaking and getting my feet wet with v1809, so I’m not relying on Woody’s go-ahead from the MS-DEFCON system)

I like the dark File Explorer theme so far. If the subject of this thread is true, and Microsoft really is getting serious about settling Windows 10 down to become a workhorse, it couldn’t have come at a better time for me.

We should all want 1809 to succeed given that it’s the basis for Windows Server 2019, as well as Windows 10 LTSC 2019.  People are going to want to build environments that last 7+ years based on this codebase.

Isn’t it just the same system we have in W7 and W8.1 and nobody gets excited about this? How low have we fallen …

I am pessimistic that this will last. What is missing is an obvious commitment in terms of money and reorganization to give Windows the proper status and resources to fix the underlying problems. Until then, no change in my position – adios MS been nice knowing you.

I believe in redemption, as well. Trust lost, though, takes long to regain. Watching and hoping while still pursuing other options….
