Just saw this tweet from Rafael Rivera: Edge team still has no plan to let you choose your own search provider (or hide the search box completely) on

If you cannot change the default search provider why would one want to use Chredge? That is feature in Chromium so I would expect it to be a default feature as it is with every other Chromium based browser I have seen including Chrome.

So it’s Commandant Chredge’s Stalag mode where no one can escape the search engine lock-in or hide from spotlighted search, and soon ads as well, on the new tab. Only the source is open with most of Chredge’s/Chromium’s code and the browser’s end users being progressively locked-in a singular search engine/ecosystem.

It’s sounds like the Open Source Licensing for Chromium needs to include a no lock-in clause before more of that land grab progresses.

Under a previous posting “Chredge is Available Now” dated January 15, 2020, @b posted the following link on how we are suppose to be able to run Chredge and Edge side by side:

This article describes how to access Microsoft Edge Legacy (version 45 and earlier) after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge.
Access Microsoft Edge Legacy after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge

However there seemed to be issues with this working properly and the Group Policy settings were not to be found.

Do we have any further information of how to handle this “before” MS overinstalls Chredge?

You can choose a different search engine in the new Edge….

      Untitled-2

….. but yeah, it only applies to the Address Bar, not the New Tab page.

proposed feature improvements have been on the list for the past six months:
And they’re still “Under review.” Sigh.

It took 15 months for the Chrome browser to allow the new tab search box to be set to something other than Google.

Did that get similar attention here? Sigh.

I set my home page to wherever I want to search from and start there.

Don’t use the MSN main page with all the news on it, and bypass it from the beginning.

Joyfully, don’t have the new Chredge yet!

You can: Change your default search engine

New Tab Page disregards your change of search engine in ChrEdge.

Chredge was always just another way to drive Chrome users to Bing. Why would they change its primary function?

No matter where you go, there you are.

First of all, I liked chredge and its heading good direction. It works well and fast, but I will wait few more months, when everything is finished and beta testing amongst wast majority of users is done. Well done M$, well done.

Chredge was always just another way to drive Chrome users to Bing. Why would they change its primary function?

I second that thought. I am fan of open-source projects. But open-source projects do not fit into Microsofts “security-focused attitude and scaring ordinary poeple thus pushing them into buggy patching and betatesting”. This must have something to do with desire to make more money. I am not surprised that Bing is def search engine, in fact in most cases it works just fine, but its not so good in Europe.. Not mentioning MSN welcome page – which I find veru useless (for me personally).

Just as Google Chrome is all about Google services, I would naturally expect Microsoft to do something similar in pushing its own services. If you want a browser with less ties to a ecosystem use Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi?

I use the Blank New Tab page extension for Chredge. Works perfectly.
