    Hey Y’all,

Ok, the big day is here…anyone got the update yet? I’ve been working my laptop, registered for the update, but nothing yet. How about our mates across the pond where it’s afternoon already?

      RG, hello.
Methinks that you already have it as I. I have not found a way to say for sure. When I use KeyFinder, the OS date has been upgraded to today, the key too. Check yours !
A “Check for Updates” finds nothing !
Cortona is working here. All best wishes. Jean.

      Jean,

Yes I have it on my test laptop that’s been running Win 10 TP for months, but both my desktop Win 8.1 Pro and main laptop Win 7 HP are still waiting.

MS states the updates will be pushed to those registered over the next few weeks. Does not say how they choose who gets it first.

I downloaded the ISO file using the Windows flash drive manager to load a bootable copy on a flash drive. Now I just need the product key to upgrade both PCs.

Yep I’m downloading the ISO on my Desktop as I type. I found it interesting that you have to pick a version to download rather than one ISO fits all.

      Really Microsoft!

After successfully downloading W10 Pro to a USB key on my Win 8.1 Pro desktop and starting the install I tried to Download W10 Home on my Laptop and got this:
      41482-W10MediaCreation
Sure looks like I have a Y: drive (USB) to me but MS sure can’t see it.

And yes I did click the refresh link.

      Hey Y’all,

Ok, Win 10 Pro Installed on my Main PC and it may have a short life there! MS has blown away their own program, MS Money Sunset Edition, you get a message that it needs you to reinstall IE6 to function. I depend on this program for my finances and may well be the killer app 😆 that killed WIN 10 on my main machine! BTW: I swear I tested Money in the TP and it worked fine.

Win 10 has also broken my Virtual Box! It change the adapter names and VB no longer offers RealTech as an option. I’ve uninstalled & reinstalled VB and still no love. Looks like it’s back to Win 8.1 Pro for the desktop!

My VB initially was broke to. Tried repair and it appeared to fix issues, but Win7 VM still had errors. No sound in my XP VM either. Un-installed then re-installed VB and all appears to work, but still no sound in WinXP, Win7, or Ubuntu (assumed prior that no sound in Ubuntu either, but I didn’t test this guest until after the re-install). I do suspect (and expect) Oracle will update VB shortly (well I hope so anyway). 🙂

When I check Windows Update History on Windows 8.1, I just found that Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro failed four times yesterday and once today.

      • #1517740

Mine showed failed this morning (just once; had left my computer on all night). I when to the failed update and clicked here and there and got the option to install Win10 and it upgraded (had to do so manually). Don’t remember the exact clicks but it was intuitive to me Bruce so sure it will be for you too. 🙂

Thank you Macrium Reflect! My Main machine is back on Win 8.1 Pro and all is working fine including MS Money & Virutal Box.

I finally just downloaded the ISO for Win 10 Home for my laptop and used RUFUS to create the USB key. It’s updating now. Since I don’t need this laptop for important stuff it will be my second test machine. BTW this laptop is Dual Boot so it will be interesting to see what it does with that!

My install was trouble-free. What I was most worried about was that my Brother MFC-685CW AIO, 5 years old, wouldn’t work and I’d have to wait for Win 10-compatible drivers or some such thing. But my worries were needless, it worked fine.

The biggest problem I have with Win 10 so far is the lack of support for Windows Live Mail. I had a significant number of emails stored in storage folders and I do not have access to any of them. That is a real bummer. I have sent FB to MS about that.

I added an icon for IE on my Taskbar as Win Edge does not yet support add-ons and I use Lastpass extensively. Also sent FB about this.

    • #1517858

    • #1518356

      Two items to update:

      1. On my 32-bit workstation (8 yrs old), when I booted into my Win8.1Pro partition, after login, a new “nag” window popped up (telling me tha Win10 was now available and extolling me to make my reservation). I tried to get a screen snapshot but it went away when OneNote was opened. This was the 1st boot after July 29, and that window does not show up on subsequent boots.

      2. On that 32-bit Win8.1Pro system, when I opened the GWX module from the taskbar, it informed me that my monitor does not have Win10 compatible drivers available. On my 64-bit workstation where Win10 is already running, it uses the same monitor (via KVM switch) without problems, so 64-bit must have the driver (monitor is HP LP2065). Note that in #1 above, I am told to make my Win10 reservation but here I am told I can’t run Win10 on this comupter.

Normal Windows Update is s-l-o-w probably due to heavy load on MS servers for Win10.

    • #1518365

      @ oldITguy

I seriously doubt Win10 can’t run on a system because of an “incompatible monitor”.

As far back as I can remember (certainly before Win95) if Windows couldn’t find a driver for a monitor then it would use a standard (built-in) monitor driver which usually was fine.

Worst case I would go to the monitor’s support website and download/install the driver from there (but shouldn’t be necessary w/ Win10).

    • #1518402

      Thanks for the feedback.

I went to the HP website, and found nothing. I could get a Vista driver for 32-bit. The actual driver in use now on my Win7 system is from HP and dated from 2009.

I suspect you are correct in your assessment, but I think the GWX message on Win8.1Pro says I can’t upgrade unless there is a compatible driver in place before attempting the upgrade.

Further updates when I have them.

      Anybody else with driver issues?

Update to information about Win10 on my older HP d4650y 32-bit workstation…

When I invoke GWX, it provides the following:

      41512-Win7_GEForce7300LE1

      View Report provides the following:

      41513-Win7_GEForce7300LE2

The message says the problem is in the video adapter, the GEForce 7300 LE. The driver is dated 1/30/2015 at version 9.18.13.908. I have searched for an updated driver and found none.

Note that while the video device adapter name is shown is RED, the message indicates the display manufacturer hasn’t made the display compatible with Windows 10. Okay, which is the problem…video card or monitor? The monitor is an HP LP2065 and there are no driver updates for it either.

This same situation occurs on my Win7 clean install partition and on my Win8.1Pro partition. At this point, this 32 bit workstation can’t run Windows 10 and I suspect the free download won’t be sent and the install wouldn’t work.

I do have an ISO file for build 10240. I may try that and see what happens. While a generic driver can be used for the physical monitor, I don’t think there is a generic driver for the video adapter.

Anybody else get Windows 10 to install & run on 32-bit nodes? Has someone found a driver update for the GEForce 7300 LE adapter?

      • #1518593

I looked for your GeForce 7300 LE on nVidia’s website.

There do not seem to be any GeForce 7 Series drivers listed there for Win8.1, but there is “GeForce 309.08 Driver Release Date: 2015.2.24 Operating System: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 8 32-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit”: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/82701/en-us

…Okay, which is the problem…video card or monitor?…

The monitor isn’t the problem. The video card (AKA “video adapter”, “display card”, “graphics adapter”, etc.) is the problem.

      Coochin:

Thanks for the feedback. I also looked at that update but it didn’t mention anything about Win10.

However, I did download the installer, and applied it to my Win8.1Pro 32-bit system. It installed lots of stuff but only EXACTLY the same video driver module that was there before…dated 1/30/2015 v9.18.13.908. Further, the GWX module still says this driver is not compatible with Windows 10 (even after reboot).

No joy in Mudville tonight. Still no Win8.1Pro support for Windows 10 for GEForce 7300 LE. Maybe later.

    • #1518707

      Coochin:

Thanks for the suggestion. The only question remains is which Nvidia cards are supported on Win10 (or others for that matter)?

It is one thing to get a message from GWX regarding a driver issue (or any other issue), but it seems there is little recourse for resolution as the vendors tend to put their support only in new devices, not for existing devices on old computers.

By the way, my 64-bit workstation does not have this issue.

Well, at least for now I don’t have to worry about Windows 10 disrupting my present computer, which I depend on heavily for running things that are as old or older than the computer itself. At one time, I had an old Micron circa 1999, that could no longer be upgraded and the old software started failing as well (it was two years ago when I shut if off for good). XP stuff is now in this state as lots of updates for the vendor XP on this node won’t run either.

      • #1518850

…The only question remains is which Nvidia cards are supported on Win10 (or others for that matter)?…

The PC I have Win10 on has an “ATI Radeon HD3870” PCI-E VGA card that is about six years old now. Win10 complained about it when first installed back in late 2014, but found a driver that worked within a couple of days. Since then it seems to have been updated again as the current driver is dated 1/13/2015.

It is likely an update driver for your card will be made available before much longer.

      Hey Y’all,

Update on the MS Money problem. I now have it running in Virtual Box on a Win XP Image reaching out to the data file on the Main Win 8.1 Pro folder system. So as long as Virtual box works on W10 I can always use the VB copy to do my finances. Now the question is since I have W10 running just fine on 2 laptops do I want to bother to the Win 8.1 Pro desktop, that I’m perfectly happy with, to Win 10….hmmmm?
