      Howdy Brian!

I recall for years I ordered your WINDOWS INTERNALS that were worth reading. As for your recent PUBLIC DEFENDER, I noticed your comment on RUFUS that I thought was MICROSOFT blessed in using versus the mere regedits for those non blessed WINDOWS PC’S

AND LESS DANGEROUS FOR THOSE USERS .PLUS , IT  COVERED MORE THAN THE OPTIONS YOU BRIEFLY SHOWED which I tried both ways  and found RUFUS saves one time having more than one desktops, laptops, and SURFACE needing to be updated from earlier Windows to 11 .
Now for Microsoft support nowadays, the last bad news is that 24H2 lastest ISO.  PRIVATE

NETWORK IS NOT WORKING . LAST CALLS TO MS SUPPORT  VIA CHAT AND PHONE

NO HELP.  ALSO, THOSE STATING FIXES FOR 24H2 NOT RESOLVING.

ANY CLUES WHY TOTALLY BLESSED DESKTOP CAN SEE NON BLESSED 24H2 DESKTOPS IR LAPTOPS ON PRIVATE NETWORK SINCE MS SOLUTIONS STILL

NOT FIXING.  THANKS in advance from an old user finding APPLE IOS and Unix systems

now passing up Microsoft Windows these times!

I really appreciate the points you make about the arms race in AI:  “It’s a technological arms race now. We can only hope the advocates of privacy and truth prevail over the bad actors who want to deceive you.”

I also think it isn’t just the “bad guys” and the “good guys” that are involved. (Sometimes it isn’t easy to tell which is which!)  The people in the middle – the users of these products – also have a serious role to play with their educated opinions, personal choices and hard earned money to help steer where this all leads. I believe, as well, that societal/legal regulations can be an important part of the process.

In general, it seems to me that hype is leading many to jump on the horses of AI just because they are fast while life is seen to be mostly a race. Unfortunately, I see signs of runaway horses. We ought to consider that a bridle may be necessary to safely steer the steed where we want to go. Younger generations (especially) may not have the perspective or skills to ride safely, so to speak.

Case in point (your second topic): The harm of AI, social media and the addictive side effects of the internet to our youngest. To mix metaphors, it’s a very deep end of the pool they are growing up swimming in – often without the wisdom or guidance that comes with life experience…. which tragically too many will never have the opportunity to get.

I’m a paid askwoody subscriber.  It is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE for me to access any

of the newsletter issues from the newsletters page.  The FREE edition entries have a

hyperlink one can click on.  But none of the subscriber issues have hyperlinks, so its

impossible to access them through the web-site.  I do get them via email, but I like to

read/save them using my browser – usually on an android device, so I can save them

to pdf files.  Please fix the missing hyperlinks on the newsletters page quickly.  Donald Tidmore.

Clicking on the link in Brian’s first post will take you to the summary. Then click the link for the full article.
        Works every time for me.

        cheers, Paul

I believe you need to be a Plus + Member to have access to/read the full Newsletters on-site.

So if this paid subscriber gets the full version via email then there must be a website membership problem? (Appearing as Lounger, not Plus.)

Donald? I’m going to reach out to you directly because on the back end it indicates it’s “pending cancellation”.  Did you try to cancel the subscription at one point in time?

It would be helpful if the forum software could be updated to so that posts show WHO is being responded to.  An in-thread indentation isn’t always clear, especially when multiple people respond to one person and isn’t helpful if someone copies a post, thus losing the visual thread positioning.

I totally agree, but one tip I’ve learned from others here, is to first hit “reply” to a post, then highlight the quoted context and hit “quote”. That should keep the thread response intact.

Besides this, I wish there was a way to see all of the new posts in a thread. If I look at the “Last Post”, I then have to scroll up to see the start of the new replies. But, sometimes there are even earlier replies that I miss. In all of the other forums I’ve been on, all of the new posts are accumulated at the bottom of the thread.

I love Perplexity but it DOES sometimes get info wrong.  Best to double check anything important or that you are going to quote to someone.
