Thanks to Woody and the team for keeping things going, I can’t believe it’s been a year already since the Lounge was born!
I have recently donated again, but will review the amount next time, meanwhile is there any way of getting Woody’s link to Amazon to apply to the UK version of the site? I’m a regular customer at Amazon but it is obviously impractical for a British customer to buy through the US site. I can log in to the US site through the link and then switch to the UK site from there but I appear to lose Woody’s link when I do so.
I don’t know anything about Amazon’s requirements, but I have seen other websites (e.g. The Tech Buyer’s Guru) that have links to Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de besides Amazon.com. You might want to check again Woody, maybe the requirements are not that strict anymore. I would love to support AskWoody.com this way!
Thanks to Da Boss & all the MVP’s. Sorry I haven’t donated since 2013, when I bought Windows 8 All-in-One for Dummies & discovered this site. I marked up that useful, beautiful brick with Win 8.1 changes, but had to move since then. Left the brick behind; haven’t bought the Win 8.1 All-in-One because I want to upgrade to Win 10 & buy that book. I want to upgrade, but won’t, because Windows 10 seems buggier than 10 Roach Motels. Tax refund season is coming, so I plan to drop something this way. I could spend $60 a year; $5/month via Patreon, but we’ll see. Keep up the good work, everyone. BTW, loved the Muppet sing-a-long; brought back memories!
Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

Thank you, Kirsty, for reviewing the year…
The technical information is the greatest, on the spot, just what is needed. The experts here have different backgrounds and goals, and the debates can be enlightening. There are different ways of doing the same thing, and different things you can do altogether, and I feel like people explain what and why they are doing quite thoroughly. But, what I really enjoy is the good humor served up with all those informative articles, Defcon moments and updating meltdowns. When I’m done, despite all my fears and lack of tech background, my computer is purring along… and I’ve had some good, healthy laughs…
and…
I have my Win 7 Home doing just what I want it to, securely, and safely, without telemetry… and I feel like I have options when it comes to Win 7’s end of life.
Thank you, Woody, for the opportunity to introduce sanity into our computing lives (friends and family benefit, too)… never making anyone feel like their question is stupid or unwanted.
You, Kirsty, and the rest of the MPVs, do an awesome job, sharing your knowledge with the rest of us. I especially appreciate the testing and reporting of real life computing adventures. I’ve been reassured as to how to stay safe, while loosening up about my whole non-techy background and starting to experiment more… and I’m expanding what I can do with my computer… and I’m having fun with it…
Thank you, thank you, thank you…

There are some places on the Internet/Web that provide a very useful service, for free and to all comers, and both deserve and need support. Yearly, I send some cash to those I use often: Wikipedia, Wunderground (local weather forecasts, nowcasts and warnings), some newspaper sites, etc. For those I trust, I also turn the ads blocker off, and Woody’s is now one of those.
Thank you.

Happy Anniversary! It’s become my habit, every single day (usually in the morning), to visit this Lounge and to look first at what the MS-DEFCON number is. Then I read the topics I’m interested in, searching for the “new” tag to make sure I catch up from the previous day. I don’t want to miss anything.
I love “waking up” to Woody & the MVPs each and every morning! [Hey, great name for a band :)] Thank you all.
Happy Anniversary!
I value the service and information found here very highly. Even if the primary purpose of interpreting Microsoft’s activities were to suddenly become unnecessary, I would still enjoy the thoughts and guidance found here. So while I wish every day were a level5 day, I’m glad this forum exists. Thanks for everything you’ve done.
Happy Anniversary, everyone! I discovered AskWoody awhile back by adding Computerworld to my many RSS feeds and read one of Woody’s articles there. I had just gone through the Anniversary Upgrade nightmare on four computers — don’t want to even think about that anymore — and, after checking this site out, I thought maybe, finally, I had found a place to help me survive the “Windows As A Service” monster. And I was right! The genius of this site is the enormous contributions made by not only Woody and his MVPs, but also by the abundance of regulars with such vast knowledge and experience in computing and tech. Plus, the formation of the Lounge was an enormous addition to what was already a great site. AskWoody is the very first place I go after firing up my computer to begin scanning my RSS feeds for news and info I’m interested in … well, actually I check my e-mail first, but Woody’s next!
Anyhow, I’ve whitelisted Woody on my Adblock Plus, go to Amazon from this site (unless I forget), and am now a Patron contributing a small amount each month. I’d feel awfully guilty if I didn’t give back at least a little for all I get from this site.
Here’s wishing for many more years of anniversaries to come!
I read a lot of Tech blogs and sites, but this is the best!
Why? The policies and administration of this site is the best to get a great exchange of information that includes experts, MVPs, and regular users.
Special thanks to Woody, and the MVPs (many with great and extreme patience) for making it a unique resource.
Happy Birthday and many, many more.
