I was excited to see that you could now specify space below a table. This is especially helpful for bordered tables. However, it seems that if you select “Around” in the “Text Wrapping” area in the Table Properties window, it does not allow the table to span more than one page. In fact, it seems to continue even below the bottom of the footer somehow.

Is there anyway to specify space below the table and still allow the table to go onto more than one page?

To demonstrate, create a table. On the Table menu, click “Table Properties”. In the “Text wrapping” area, click Around. Add row after row to the table until it spills off the page.

Thanks for any help on this!!

      Hi Troy:
Excuse the delay in answering but I’ve been away from Lounge for 2 weeks. When you select “around” wrapping from Table Properties, Word converts the table from inline to floating. A floating object is in the drawing layer and can only span 1 page. This is true of all drawing objects.

Even placing the table in a frame, setting the wrapping to “None” won’t help.

You can include a blank line after the table (a paragraph mark) & specify its point size or you could format it with the paragraph formatting of “space above”. You can do this by right clicking & choosing paragraph, & then Indents & Spacing tab. Not elegant, for sure.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response!! It’s nice to know someone like you is around that will cleanup unanswered posts when they can.

I had kind of already guessed at your answer about the tables. While I can understand the limitation of the drawing layer, the fact that it cannot spill over into another page makes this feature almost useless from my perspective. I can see rare cases when it would be helpful, but otherwise you could end up with large areas of unnecessary white space on the page before or after the table. Oh well, leave it Microsoft to give us another great feature that is next to useless.

        Thanks for the confirmation!!
