• Text to Audio – any ideas?

    Hi all,

I work as a medical transcriptionist and proofread for quite a few hours a day. I use Office 2000 (Word) and would like to know if there is software that can read out loud while I view the Word Document on screen.

My eyes are getting sore but if I could hear it at the same time I am hoping it would minimise the strain.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Although I cannot personally recommend any software on the basis of its strengths (I don’t use anything like it), perhaps this page at EnableMart will help you get started….Also try searching using Google and pasting the following line into the search box as-is:

      “text to speech”|screenreader|”screen reader”

The pipe ( | ) is the OR operator so you can search different strings all at once; the quotes keep the search string together.

      Good luck!

Here a a few links to get you started:

Read as you type: Read Genius

Read existing text: Cool Speech, Read Please, Advanced Text to Speech

I don’t have any experience with any of them, so I can’t offer any recommendations.

      Have a Great day!!!

Certainly if you import the document into Omnipage 10 and above there is a voice read back feature available

        Thanks Ted,

Good to know there are quite a few options open to me.
