I want to produce a text file of file names in an explorer folder. Is this possible please?

Get Karen’s Directory Printer – it’s free. You can print the contents of a folder, or save it to a file, with lots of options.

If you are familair with old DOS, you could go into a Command Prompt window, Change Directory (CD) to the correct folder, type DIR > FILELIST.TXT then close the Command Prompt window. Then use Windows Explorer to move FILELIST.TXT to wherever you want it, then edit it.

But you need to be familiar with CD, otherwise considerable frustration will result…

thanks to both of you, – I tend to fight shy of DOS options – coward that I am!! I went down the software route and the recommended program was absolutely superb – has solved the problem.

I know I’m late to the party here, but just in case. You might want to read this post and this one for my recommendation about an old free utility called FileGrabber. It allows you to “build” a list of files, using Explorer, from more than one directory and then save the list to a text file. Very easy to use and drag’n’drop capable.
