Text Boxes Not Printing

I am using Word 2010 on a Windows XP machine. I have created an org chart for a report using the text box feature. I used the shape styles to format the text box. I then used lines between the boxes and sent them to the back. When I print to our color printer, only the lines print. I have “Print drawing objects” and “Print background images” checked. I’ve also tried it without those items checked. Still only the lines. I converted it to a PDF file–nothing but lines.

Help please!

Do you see anything in print preview?

I guess it may be possible that the problem is an option in the print settings but I don’t know what you would be looking for if the Acrobat driver does the same thing.

Perhaps you might post a sample doc so we can have a look at it to see if there is a problem in the document itself.

I hate to ask the obvious but…did you assign an actual line point size and color to the boxes or did you just shape the boxes? The boxes may appear on the screen as shapes but not print if an outline point size and color are not assigned.

Quick check: Draw a large rectangle; color it light gray; drop it behind the chart; print to PDF. If you see the boxes, you forgot to assign color and point size to their outlines. They are printing white-on-white.

Thank you for the replies. Andrew, yes it’s visible in print preview. It would not print on our kyocera color printer, but prints on the Lexmark b&w.

My work around in order to get the report out was to save it as a 2003 format doc. It printed fine from that format.

Magna, thank you for the tip on the outline. I will check it the next time I have to do one of these.
