Hi all,

I have a text box that is too high. When I select it and push the down arrow to shift it down, it moves down too far. Is there a way to get it to nudge down just a little bit, and not the full unit through using the arrows? I tried just reducing the size of the box in the “Format Text Box” window, but that only makes the bottom edge of the box go up or down.

You could try changing the position of the text box in the Size and Position window, this should let you move the top of the text box by any amount you want.

Try holding the Alt key while you drag the text box boundary. That should allow you to move it just a little – what it is doing otherwise is snapping to the nearest (invsible) grid line.

That alt function really worked! It doesn’t snap anywhere except for where I tell it! Thanks!

This advice is bases on Word 97. You can tell me if it still applies in Word 2003.
Summary: With the text box selected with the cross hatching on the outside (not the lines), use Control and the arrow keys to move the text box very small distances.
Text boxes have two types of “selection”. One is with slanted lines outside the box. This lets you edit the text in the box. But if you click again on the wall of the text box, there is a cross hatching outside the box. Then you can move the box a little with Control and arrow keys.

Your description is valid in Word 2000 – 2003 too. I haven’t seen Word 2007 yet, but I suspect it’ll work the same way in this respect.
