    Hi all,
We recently upgraded from NT4 server to SBS 2000 and are thus far very pleased. One of the nicer new facilities was the terminal server, allowing administrators to make changes to the server config from their workstation and not have to physically move to the server. It would be great to be able to do the same thing to a users workstation. If a user has a problem, rather than go to their workstation, just open a terminal to their workstation and fix it from our own workstation. It sounds incredibly lazy, I know, but our network is scattered over two buildings. Does W2K Server allow for this?

    Thanks in advance

    Ryan

Which OS is running the workstations? You can take a look at http://www.realvnc.com[/url%5D. It will do the job.

I use TightVNC to accomplish this. It means installing the client on every machine and configuring at least a password. I agree with you, it would be smoother to use TermServ to accomplish this, but that is only on servers. I’m quite certain that one could hack at W2kPro to make it work, but that would be more difficult than the alternative, not to mention probably in violation of the software license.

We are running W2K on nearly all of the workstations with W98SE on 1 or 2 of them. Thanks for your responses. I will check out RealVNC and TightVNC.

      Cheers,

Microsoft NetMeeting is free with Windows, and using the Remote Desktop Sharing option is an easy way to instruct the users to share their computers for remote troubleshooting. It also allows for decent security in that RDS is only allowed to those in the Administrator group.

Thanks Dan. That sounds exactly what I’m looking for.
