• Templates in W97 going to W2K (2000/SR1)

    Hello all

Has anyone had experience migrating MS Word 97 templates (some with AutoText) across to MS Word 2000? Apart from the obvious points like location of the template folders I am enquiring if any problems with styles, etc. had been noted.

    Thanks, in advance
    Leigh

      Leigh:

I was able to successfully convert all 97 templates over to 2000. I only had a couple of problems with macros in one of the documents but other than that everything went ok. With most of our users still on 97, I had to make sure the templates worked for both.

      Hope this helps.

      Hi Leigh

Like Leanne we had no problems at all with our templates sucessfully migrating from Word 97 to 2000 despite the fact that we installed 2000 to a different drive than that which 97 had been on.
Fortunately all our styles survived remarkably intact – in fact it was probably the most problem free upgrade we have ever had.

Take a deep breath and do it – you won’t regret it.

      Regards

Thank you Leanne and Sue for your replies.

Leanne, might I enquire as to what the ‘couple of problems with macros’ were, as one of my templates has both Wordbasic (from the Word 6 migration to W97) and VBA (W97) macros?

        Thanks in advance, Leigh

          Leigh:

I had a macro (VBA) in a letterhead template that would select the address, copy it, create a new document (table set up to match our mailing labels) and paste info into table and format it according to USPS regulations. The only problem I had with it was that macro wouldn’t create the table correctly in 97 and 2000 (based on a 2000 template). Therefore, I had to create 2 separate macros; 1 for 97 and 1 for 2000.

Other than that, everything went great.

            Thanks Leanne

Several of my macros create tables (that are populated by a userform). In one case, a table is then VBA cut and pasted into the header (it contains document control info).

So I will have to run a thorough test to check that.

            Thanks again, Leigh
