Once again, an Word 2007 issue that is plaguing me this morning! I’ve read in both my 2007 manuals, but Word doesn’t appear to do what it says it will do. I have the location for personal templates unchanged from the Office default, and I have set a Workgroup Templates folder to a network drive. From all I read once you save a new template, and select .dotm when you save the location changes to your default user template folder. Mine does not. Every time I click to save a template, the save location stays on my default document location. If I want it to got to the template folder I have to browse to it. Hope that makes sense. This is unacceptable for my novice users and I need help in getting this to work correctly as documented.

I don’t have Office 2007 myself, but apparently, Word 2007 Save As “Template” is Microsoft Bug

      Judy,
Did you mean .dotx, as that would be the correct template extension for Word ’07
I just created a template, using quick parts to set it up. I named it Test Template, then clicked on File, Save As, Word Template, and it saved it to the Trusted Templates folder just fine. I even created a new folder within the Trusted Template folder and put it there. I then opened a new word document and clicked on the Trusted Templates and when I went to open the template it was there, formatted just as I saved it?
I read through both of my manuals: 2007 Microsoft Office System Inside and Out, and Office 2007 (Bott and Leonard) as well as back through the Overview (Templates) class and mine did what it is supposed to do.
You can save the template to a network drive, but! if there are any macros in that template they will be disabled because the template is not in the Trusted Templates folder.

The extension .dotm is for a template containing VBA code.

Hans already answered with a .dotm is, but I tried a .dotx with the same results the default folder does not change. Have you installed some updates I don’t know about.? It definitely doesn’t work on my Software Select Version nor any of our other installed PC’s.

No Judy I didn’t do anything special or haven’t done anything else, it just works. I am using Office 2007 Pro.
