Teleprompter effect? (PPT 2000)

I received a nice little Christmas message in the email. It runs 3 or 4 screens worth, having a Christmas tree with sparkling lights (animated GIF, I suppose) and text below and the tree again and more text, etc. We use PPT to project song slides and announcements at church. The Pastor wants to run this thing but he wants it to scroll like a teleprompter and loop for a while. Is there any way to simulate this in PPT? Or is there a program I could run parallel to PPT that would do this?

The only telepropter effect that I have used is drawing text box, filling it with text and then placing it above the slide. Then added the custom animation effect of Crawl from Bottom. Can be effective, but I am not sure how you can control the speed of the crawl. Fine for rousing gospel singing and very fast readers but a bit hard on the poor old dears with Amazing Grace

Well, I would like to show it to you but I cannot find a way. Everytime I post a message saying I need an email address to send it to you (and giving mine) it gets removed by the moderator. Seems to be against the rules. And, while I can post the text easily enough, the graphics and the midi file don’t paste. Anyhow, you can get the effect by looking at http://nchaven.com/Christmas/Story/birthday.html%5B/url%5D but visualize the Christmas tree from http://www.powersville.net/%5B/url%5D substituted for the other graphics. Except that the lights on the tree blink. And there is a nice midi file of carols playing in the background. Feel free to check my profile.

Sorry for the delay, but I got the message. I had a few days off work. Hurrah!. And I have amended my profile.

I have seen messages and greetings like the one’s shown in the links done in Hallmark Greetings. But I don’t know how much control you have over the preset projects. Quite fun for Christmas.

My suggestion, building on what Hetty has said.
If you want that slide to “loop” or “repeat” – Try making a custom show.

1. Look under the Slide Show menu and you will find Custom Shows …
   Once in the Custom Shows dialog box, click on the New button. You will see a list of the slides in your show. Decide how many times you want the information to loop and add the slide to the show that many times. Be sure to add the rest of the slides in the order in which you want to see them.
   One of the neat things about a custom show is that it is not necessary to show slides in the same order as they exist in the presentation. I often use custom shows when I have a presentation that I give to different groups of people, it allows to me to reorder the presentation, omit certain slides – basically have different versions of the presentation without keeping multiple copies up to date.

2. Now since you want the presentation to loop automatically you will also need to add slide timings to the presentation. There are two ways to do that: 1) Slide Show menu Rehearse Timings, which we can discuss in another post if you wish or 2) If you know how long you will want to stay on each slide a quick method is to go to the Slide Show menu and select Slide Transition.
   In the lower left hand corner of the dialog, select that you wish the slide to advance automatically and set the time.
   I like to do this from the Slide Sorter view, since I can adjust multiple slides at the same time, by selecting them first.

3. After creating the Custom Show, and setting up Slide Timing, you’ll need to go back to the Slide Show menu and select Set up Show (see picture). Select the name of the PPT show you are using, and tell it to advance the presentation using timings. You could also tell PPT to loop the entire show until you hit the Escape key if you want. Remember, these will now become the default settings for the PPT show. This is something I occasionally forget and then end up wrestling with a timed presentation – but you can change them whenever you wish.

Finally, to address the speed issue of the crawling text box, you may wish to break the text into multiple text boxes and multiple slides as well as playing with the timings of the animation of the text box to control the speed. Remember that the timing for the Slide Transition will override any timings you set at the text box level (this is where rehearsing slide timings can be useful – so you don’t set up a conflict). Oh, and make sure the text box advances automatically without a mouse click – but you probably figured that one out.
