Thanks for the clarification Susan, I noticed this on my machine the other day with Defender and thought that was peculiar. I have Bitdefender installed as my default AV solution.

Even with 3rd party a/v replacing Defender it is possible to use Defender for malware scanning.

There is a specific setting I show in the Video where Malwarebytes knows to take over the role as your main antivirus and register itself as your default antivirus.

That is an optional setting in Malwarebytes Premium. But it turns itself on by default. It’s integration into the Windows security center which names the feature. Leaving it off makes MBAM independent of WD and allows both to protect your system with minimal interference, as long as WD Protected Folders/Ransomware Protection is not turned on.

Be advised that if it is replaced by a third party AV/AM program, WD will not necessarily update its engine or its definitions.

I watched the video.   I am running Definder & MBAM; they seem to work well together.  I feel that I am getting my complete protection by running both – but I may be wrong.  My Defender is up to date.  I have not enabled “Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center.”

Susan, why do you say to choose one or the other when it comes to running both MBAM & Defender?

I’ve been running MBAM Premium as my SECONDARY anti-malware solution to Defender for years with nary a hiccup. Never had an incident either!

I haven’t had any issues either.  But Susan is much more knowledgeable than me and I wanted to understand the reasoning behind using only one or the other.
