I’m not sure if everything needs a firmware update right out of the box. When I buy MacBooks and iPhones, they all arrive at my door with the latest updates installed—at least, if you buy them brand new. It depends on the manufacturer and the seller, I’d imagine.

Depends if you buy them right after they are released or if the product has been out a while. When I bought my Mac Mini it needed an update as the product had been out for a while.  My iphone I bought when that version was first released and it needed an update for some initial bugs even though one wasn’t coded up yet.

I would dearly love to have my body’s firmware restored to version 24.5 or so, but alas, they don’t do downdates …
