• Taskbar Position (XP Home)

I have a user who has managed to drag the taskbar to the right hand side of the screen. I assumed I could simply drag it back to the bottom but all I can do is extend it to cover half of the desktop – it seems impossible to drag it away from the top of the screen. Is there anyway I can force Windows to reboot with the bar in it’s default position so that I can lock it there?

On occasion, I have had drag ‘n drop refusals with XP but a reboot always seems to “cure” it. Have you tried a plain old reboot, maybe even into Safe Mode, to see if it will then drag back down where you want it? Hopefully, you are doing the dragging in an empty area of the bar, right?

        Thanks Al

I am not on site at the moment – there is no internet access on the machine in question so I have excaped home for for lunch – as it happens I only did a restart so this pm I will do a full shutdown and report back if I am still unable to move the darned thing.

        Many thanks

Sue, Right click the start button. Select Properties | task bar. Make sure that ‘Lock the taskbar’ in unchecked. Then try to move it. A re-boot may be necessary.

All sorted – it only took a proper reboot but I was lacking time and patience this morning. Safely restored and locked so she can’t move it again – there are times when I wish MS did a XP “Seniors” line so my users couldn’t keep doing these things.

            Thanks guys

            Regards
