• Task Pane Appearing on Open (2002)

We have been loading Offixe XP on numerous computers. Occasionally we will have one that doesn’t automatically start the New Document Task Pane on Open or when you click the new document icon on the toolbar. However, it will by going into File, New. The Startup Task Pane is selected in Tools, Options, View. All settings appear to be the same on computers that work right and ones that don’t. Any suggestions? I can’t find anything in Microsoft KnowledgeNet. Any help would be appreciated.

For Word, if there is a document in the startup directory then the task pane will not appear. Other than removing any files from the startup directory, the only other way I know to get around this is to install WOPR.

Tony, am I really dumb, What is WOPR? I don’t think we have a word document in the startup directory, but how can I tell? What is the startup directory? I am and OLD user, but sometimes I really don’t understand all I should!! Judy

WOPR is Woodys Office Power Pack, you can find out how to get it and what it is on the wopr home page.

The startup directory is a special directory that Word looks in whenever a user starts Word. If there are any files in it Word will automatically open them. To find out the location of the startup directory go to Tools>Options within Word and look at the File Locations tab. Files in the startup directory can be used to add new features to Word.

Make sure teh “Show at startup” is checked in the lower area of the “Task Pane”

Dave, the show at startup is checked on all PC’s with the problem, and the Show Task Pane is set on the Options, View dialog box. We are just at a loss as to why this happens.

Have you clear the check mark and then rechecked it, some times this will clear up these flacky things evilgrin
