Just a quicky. It will be seen from the screen shot that [with no other file opened] when I am using Spybot to do a full scan, the “Performance” graph is shown as running at 100 %. Is this to be expected? Obviously not really a problem… just curious. Thanx dave.

This is a good thing in this case, showing that the (only) running task is utilizing the CPU to the max and thereby running at maximum possible efficiency. An idle CPU is a wasted CPU grin

      What Alan says…

In general, you’ll find that anti-virus and anti-spyware applications use a lot of processor capacity while they are scanning, so it is a good to let them scan at a moment when you’re not actively using the computer yourself, for example at night, or while you are having your tea. Spybot S&D lets you schedule a scan in Settings > Scheduler (this option is only displayed if you’re in Advanced mode).

Thank you gentlemen, perchance others – like myself – may have wondered what the significance is of these graphs and statistics. Kind regards Dave.

I would bear in mind that there could be other (hidden) applications running, the combined CPU utilisation being ~100%.

You would probably get a better picture – albeit just a snapshot – by viewing the Processes tab, and clicking on CPU twice (to sort descending).
(Note that ‘System Idle Process’ is not a true ‘process’, rather an indication of unused CPU utilisation.)

You can see from the attached that the total shown in the status bar at the bottom (12%) is the sum of the three active applications. In your case, you should be able to see what actual percentage Spybot is using.

Thanks again for every contribution, occasionally some of it is over my head but all in all, I get the gist of what you are all saying. Regards again. Dave.
