Removing Windows Copilot
You too ?
First, ensure your devices are managed by Windows Software Update Services, Windows update for Business, or Intune because Microsoft sees these as “managed devices” and will not enable Copilot
Is this is the way to block installing Copilot in Windows 11 Pro by changing some settings using GPEdit turning the PC to ‘*Some settings are managed by your organization‘ ?
…turning the PC to ‘*Some settings are managed by your organization‘
I got that when I blocked driver updates via Windows update. I have Copilot rendered impotent by removing Edge/Bing.
As for “Some settings are managed by your organization”, yes, indeed. That’s how I like it.
You say “Those of you in the EU? Tough luck.” This presumably includes the UK, so I thought I can forget about Copilot for now at least.
However, you go on to say “Right around the corner is Windows 11 23H2, which will fully enable Copilot.”
Does this mean that in the UK we won’t get Windows 11 23H2, or that Windows 11 23H2 won’t be released until Copilot has been rolled out to all markets?
At some point in time Microsoft will release a version that is in compliance with EU rules.
I don’t anticipate they will delay 23H2.

“Those of you in the EU? Tough luck.” This presumably includes the UK,
UK isn’t part of EU and isn’t under the new EU’s competitions rules.

Although (unfortunately) the UK is not in the EU anymore, most EU law was carried over into British law and still applies, until it is explicitly repealed by the UK government.
As a result we still get the EU version of most software! Which is what I meant by my comment that “This presumably includes the UK”.
It remains to be seen if AI keeps the hype.

Microsoft reportedly is losing lots of money per user on GitHub Copilot
..Microsoft has reportedly struggled to make money from its AI services. A new report from The Wall Street Journal claims to have info on how Microsoft has lost lots of money on GitHub Copilot, one of its first generative AI services…
The WSJ reports that since the launch, Microsoft has been losing tons of money on GitHub Copilot. It stated:
In the first few months of this year, the company was losing on average more than $20 a month per user, according to a person familiar with the figures, who said some users were costing the company as much as $80 a month…
I grabbed both the ADMX/ADML files and the .REG file. Much to my surprise, the Group Policy option only includes Per User settings for Copilot but the registry file has both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE settings.
Does this mean I can kill Copilot outright if I use the .REG files buy only per user if I use the Policy files?
With one or perhaps two exceptions, I can’t see my clients being interested in 365 Copilot if it were free, let alone $30 a month. Please keep an eye open for Copilot for Microsoft 365 kill switches!
Does this mean I can kill Copilot outright if I use the .REG files buy only per user if I use the Policy files?
You are correct. GP takes care of only the Current User (HKCU),
The .Reg file has the Registry entry for HKCU, but also includes an entry for HKLM (Local Machine) which applies to the computer.

Very interesting! I wonder why Microsoft built in a way to kill Copilot outright on a machine, the .REG file, but does not extend that capability to Group Policy.
It would be interesting to know which one was an oversight as one usually can accomplish the same thing on a computer using either the registry or group policy. Assuming, of course, this is an oversight and not something more Machiavellian, er Micrsostian.
