• Tabs & Bullets (XP, SP3)

When you click the bullet button, typically you get a first-level bullet. Type text, press [Enter]. You move down to the next line and the same type bullet is entered. Press the tab key and typically you get a 2nd level bullet, indented to the next tab stop.

I’ve been asked to discover why one system behaves differently: On this system, while bullets are “on”, when you press [Enter], you get a 2nd first level bullet at the left margin. Pressing tab moves the cursor (and text) to the next tab stop, but the bullet remains at the margin and the bullet style does not change. I assume some automatic formatting has been turned off, but I cannot locate it. Deleting Normal.dot had no effect. Can you suggest where I might look? Thanks

      Select Tools | AutoCorrect Options…
Activate the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
If the check box labeled “Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces” is ticked, pressing Tab will increase the indent, i.e. move the bullet. If the check box is clear, Tab will simply insert a tab character, i.e. move to the next tab stop.
