The software site says the program is for both XP and Vista, John, so I’m gonna move your post to the Software Forum where it seems like folks searching might be inclined to look.

I’ve not heard of those folks. Are you using the software to your satisfaction and with no negative impacts?

I just installed it yesterday, It’s a little over my head but it does give a lot of detail that explains what is going on with Startup Control Panel

I’m with Bob on this one, Dave. I don’t use F-Prot and know nothing about it, but…

I’ve been (experimentally) to the site a few times today, vis-a-vis my question to John about “reliability” of the vendor, and I’ve gotten no warnings like you did. I downloaded the program in question and again, got no warnings. So, I scanned its file with both Avast AND Spybot with clear sailing as a result. I dunno…

Dave didn’t expand much on the experience, nor the column in the message in the dialog box.

It seems like F-PROT found something it calls HTML/IFrame exploit either in the cache or on its way to the cache. I don’t use F-PROT but regard them as high quality. It could be a false positive or it found something in an iframe.

IE have had real bad problems earlier with iframe exploits, and the experience can differ quite a bit depending on what browser one use when one visit the page and what settings that browser has (Active scripting etc), also obviously what updates and protection that are in place. With FX and NoScript it’s possible to easy block a lot of things.

Remember the script injection at askwoody (mentioned in thread, post 696,613).
What do I know; it could be some script injection/Iframe exploit, thus not necessarily related to the downloaded file.

But I agree totally with you, one should of course check everything downloaded and extra so if it is a program one is going to run.

There is a lot of suspicious script in that page. Check the attached Word doc for “eval” and you will see the hex codes that the script turns back into executable JavaScript. This site might be compromised.

Okay, okay….. I just love these tempting possible infected sites/files threads.

Kaspersky 8.0.0.454 didn’t squeak when I loaded the site nor when I downloaded the .exe file. I did a manual scan with KAV and nada. I also did a manual scan with Malwarebyte’s Antimalware 1.30 and nada. Soooooo, I gotta conclude that it’s clean.

So if everyone did like you in everything, and also used Kaspersky (which I regard as a good program, but not the only one) the world would be a safe place?

It isn’t necessarily something in the downloaded file but an injected script on the site, and script that runs on a site can also change on different page loads etc. etc.

I do hope that this was an attempt at being humorous and not a falling into unwarranted sarcasm?

Admittedly, I have been called similar appellations, even “Dr.” due to my tenacious stick-to-it troubleshooting tendencies and high percentage of success where others have failed. But, uninterestingly enough, I have not been called “guru”, at least I don’t recall having been addressed in that manner. Okay, back to the point of my jumping in here… others shared their results using their particular security software and I thought I would do likewise. Do I believe that a wide use of Kaspersky would make the world a safe place? Oh, again this must be the injection of humor, correct? I have been able to buy more than groceries from the money handed over to me by those whose computers I have had to disinfect who used something other than KAV/KIS. So, in a self-serving sense, I am glad that Kaspersky products aren’t being used by everybody. Kaspersky has screeched on a few occasions when I have visited certain websites. So, it is quite good at recognizing and rendering harmless online miscreants.
