    hello Loungers

I noticed that in Windows XP Pro, there is a folder called “System Volume Information”. I have one on my C:, E:, and my Firewire drives. Each range in the range of 0 KB to 634 MB.

    What is this folder for?
Why is the size so large, in some cases at least?
Could I safely remove it? It seems to be a system folder, so how do I remove it?

Also I can access the one on my FireWire drive, but not the ones on my C: and my E: Drives, both ATA-100 EIDE drives?

    Thanks for any insights.

Wassim, take a look at this article and see if it makes any sense.

        thankyou Wylly

I checked this MSKB article and it said:

This article describes how to gain access to the System Volume Information folder. The System Volume Information folder is a hidden, system folder that the System Restore tool uses to store its information and restore points. There is a System Volume Information folder on every partition on your computer. You might need to gain access to this folder for troubleshooting purposes.

Which means that I will need this folder, and I will have to live with it being so large.

Thanks for the quick reply sailing .

You may not have to live with it being so large – you can reduce the size by limiting the amount of space System Restore can use. But yeah, if you use System Restore…you’re stuck with the folders themselves!
