I have just installed Windows 2000 Pro on a new machine, I decided to take some of the stuff out of the system tray, went to look for good old msconfig and guess what It’s not there, so how do I take stuff out of the system tray now. Any help would be appreciated.

      To view your startup stuff:
Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management >
System Information > Software Environment > Startup Programs

      (I’m sure there is a faster way, I just can’t remember…)

      BUT:
What are you wanting to do? Stop a program from starting, or just stop it appearing in the Systray?
If the latter, it is usually an option setting within the prog itself.

        Hi Leif

Thanks for your reply, It’s just Extraneous stuff that Compaq seem to think everybody wants to use and takes up valuable resources.

It may be worth listing what you want to lose – someone with a Compaq may have an informed opinion if it is specific Compaq stuff.
(There’s nothing in your StartUp folder that you can just move to a new folder called DoNotStartUp?)

Thank you for the link; I think it’s gotten much harder to find stuff in 2000 than it was even in NT4.

I noticed prpcui.exe and ran it on Google. According to AnswersThatWork’s Task List page (for P!) this is the program that slows the processor if I disconnect my laptop from AC power. I guess that’s useful; battery life is always at a premium.

The bizarrely named mobsync.exe, though, looks less necessary. According to the M page, it’s for synchronizing offline IE web pages with the online versions. (On the other hand, maybe I’ll use that some day…)

Dell’s discfix.cmd is not listed on that site, and it didn’t come up in a Google search. Maybe I’ll check Dell sometime. Or just buy more memory. smile

To get to the Startup Programs try Start – Run – msinfo32. This works on my W2k Pro system.
