I tried to set up a Restore Point before doing some WIndows updates and got the following message: Cound not create teh scheduled task for the follwing reason: The Task image is corrupt or has been tampered wiht (ox80041321), Great. Now what? Googling on this brings, again, a number of complicated steps with the associated risks. Any suggestions? Thanks.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 26, 2009 at 2:21 pm #1186922You might try SFC (System File Checker)
Type “cmd” into the Search box above the Start Button and when cmd comes up at the top of the Start menu right click cmd and click “run as Admin” and when the cmd prompt comes up at the cmd prompt type “sfc /scannow” no quotes and let it run. This may fix things quite a bit. It replaces corrupt files with intact ones, if you’re not familiar with it.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 26, 2009 at 2:23 pm #1186923You most probably need to repair System Restore files or/and other system files, and in this case given your other recent thread, it would be good run the system file checker. It will scan for missing or corrupted system files and repairs them.
Start a Command Prompt as Administrator (right-click the shortcut and select run as Administrator).
Run: sfc /scannow

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot. Given that this system spent time in the shop with a Vista update screw up, then the hard dirve croaked, then i got that trojan, I’m not feeling too confident. Morituri te salutamus!

Dimidium facti qui coepit habet; sapere aude, incipe!
It’s a good start.
I see that Doc was here before me, with the same advice, sorry Doc.
(I was thinking of adding a link to Einzug der Gladiatoren (Entrance of the Gladiators by Julius Fučík) but I am not sure it is that fun given the situation. Good luck.)
