Did an install on a new SSD after a disk crash. The install created 2 small partitions and no drive letters on that SSD containing the operating system.  Fine. Windows install also created a 100MB System Reserved partition on an existing second physical drive and assigned a drive letter.  I used the Computer Management app to change the drive letter Windows install gave that partition.  I don’t believe this System Reserved partition existed before. Why now?  can I safely delete it or at least remove the drive letter?

Do not remove the reserved partition, Windows will not boot.

      Which disk is the SSD?
      What is the other disk?
Is the machine behaving as you want?
Do you want to change the disk structure / data locations?

      cheers, Paul

Disk 1 is the SSD.  Disk 0 is the HD.  I won’t delete the Reserved Partition but I would like to remove the drive letter. I’m comparing the disk structures with my other machines and I note that the Reserved Partition has no drive letter on the other machines.

Is the machine behaving as I wanted? Mostly.  There are a few minor anomalies that I can live with.  I’ll be posting more questions shortly but I’m taking this restore one step at a time.  And yes, I had made a backup on the evening before the crash.

        Thanks in advance.

Removing drive letter (K:) is OK. Unclear if the Reserved partition in any way interacts with your System installation (on SSD), but it’s only 100 MB, so don’t lose sleep over it.

No it didn’t. The partition has existed before, previously invisible to Windows Explorer due to missing drive letter and carrying boot files for the OS located at “Tera”. It is in no way related to your new installation and yes, your new Windows will still boot after removing it although there’s no need to. Only the OS at “Tera” won’t. Removing the drive letter will prove insignificant.

Recent assignment of a drive letter is due to now displaying the partition in a foreign OS’s disk management application.
