I can’t open my Access program. I get a msgbox “can’t open database ‘C:WindowsSystemSystem.MDW’. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.” I reinstalled Access (I think) and got the same problem.
I have done a quick search of the file name here and understand that it is some kind of user/password control issue. I did not see any thread associated with my error message.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Can I get someone else’s system.mdw and use it? Renaming the suffix didn’t fool the program into creating another .mdw. If you can’t reinstall, what can you do?
    Thanks!

Do you have more than one version of Access installed on your machine? That message can pop up when you try to open an Access 2000/2002 database from Access 97 too. Try searching your hard drive for another System*.mdw and see if anything turns up.

On option is to recreate the system.mdw file using the Workgroup Administrator function that comes with Access. You have to run it outside of Access first. You should be able to find it in the Office install directory using Explorer.
