Is there a comparable utility in WINDOWS ME to extract files from the Windows Installation Disk? A friend installed WIN ME over WIN 98 SE and when he tries to use Windows Explorer, the computer freezes. When he opens Windows Explorer, it opens to MY DOCUMENTS but when he clicks on the C drive, the system freezes.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking for, but if you’re after a utility to extract from CAB files, PowerDesk should do the job for you.

I have had lots of trouble with upgrades to Me in the past. Did your friend take the option of saving system files so that Me can be uninstalled? Might be simplest to uninstall and start again – unless there was a point at which Me was running smoothly, in which case Start>Programs>Accessories>System Restore (unless, like me, it has mysteriously disappeared from the menu! confused) and see if you have a restore point from a time when the system was working properly.

If you install Winzip 8.0, you can open Cab files and extract what file you want.

Trial version is available at http://www.winzip.com/
