I accidentally setup A new Windows 11 pro machine as a Work/School account (Azure AD joined) and now I want to create a regular off-line account and then remove the original account.

I went to settings and created an offline account wit Admin privileges but after logging out I am not given the choice to login with the local account, only the original AD joined account. Also a profile for the new user is not created under c:\users (although the account is listed as a local account if I go back to settings).

How can I get the local account to work short of formatting and starting over.

    Thanks

Where did you add the user?  Create a local user or administrator account in Windows – Microsoft Support

You should be able to be on the main login screen and click to switch accounts if the account has been set up as a local user.

I added the new local account from the settings/accounts/add an account (same as your link suggests). The account shows on that screen, but when I log-out or reboot the new user is not presented as a choice from login screen. I have tried to delete and re-add the account several times (even using a different user name).

control userpasswords2 also show the new user/admin

I’m trying to visualize when I’ve flipped users, there’s like a dot or something down there you click that then exposes the other users.

If not, try that to make it expose the additional users.

          Thanks.

It looks like this may help (from your link).

          GPO
Enumerate local users on domain-joined computers = Enabled (Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Logon)

I wont have access to the user computers for a few weeks.
Will post back with results then.

Finally got a chance to test the group policy, it worked.

      Thanks
