    I believe I have a retail key.
    I used Produkey to extract my key and printed it.
    In about a week I will swap from an ASUS Prime mobo to an ASUS ROG STRIX mobo – both are chipset Z790, same cpu, mem, disks.
    Should I expect activation problems?

    Activation says digitally activated but it is not connected to a MS account since I use a local login.
    Thanks.

    the last 4 of my key match this:(from “slmgr /dli”)

      I believe it takes 3 hardware changes, so you should be good if only the MB is swapped out. If you were to swap out the MB, Processor and Memory, then it may not digitally activate. But even then, since  you have a retail key, you should be able to call and get it transferred.

      ETA: I tried looking up my activation status, and it says it is “Retail Channel” as well, but I know this came from a Win7 HP OEM upgrade, so I’m not sure if this really means much of anything. The last 5 of my activation code is the “generic product key for Windows 10 Pro”

      @krism –

      The following screenshot is directly from the link to MS’s site right below it. Pay particular attention to the second paragraph where they use motherboard replacement as a specific example. Looks like you’ll have to go through reactivation after all, but it sounds like you’ve got the info you’ll need to successfully complete the reactivation.  🙂Win-11-reactivation

        The big thing with MS is they desperately want me to use win11 via my MS account, which I resist. Guess I’ll find out!!! Saturday may be the day and the mobo has changed to a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX.

      Followup: I did upgrade the mobo. It, so far, did NOT ask me for my key. mobo and cpu changed. chipset stayed Z790.
