Probably a question best directed to Susan Bradley. Windows update on my surface Pro 4 is offering an Intel System update 2102.100.0.1044 and two Surface firmware updates 109.3758.768.0 and 11.8.86.3877. These just showed up yesterday and I have yet to do any meaningful research as to what the updates are intended to address. Since none of these can be uninstalled after being applied I figured it is probably a good idea to see what others have to say about these before I install them. Thanks for your guidance.

Thanks for the reply. After I posted here this morning I went looking for more info and read the same info you provided in the links above. Unfortunately I haven’t yet found anything that details what specific changes are being made by these updates or what the security concerns are that are being addressed. I also haven’t yet come across any info on whether others have experienced any issues after applying the updates. In the same vein I haven’t found any info from people who did not experience any update issues. I will keep looking since there is no going back from this type of upgrade if something unexpected or unintended happens.

Some of the other fixes in other Surface releases are Intel Micro fixes. I would say wait a week (at least) before installing.

As and update, I went to install the three system updates for my Surface Pro 4 tablet this morning. The Intel Management update that was offered by windows update a week ago seems to have disappeared. It was not downloaded and thus not installed. However, the two firmware updates were downloaded and at least for now seem to have installed successfully. Now I have to go see if I can find out what happened to that Intel update.

My work machine is also offering me the Intel – System – 2102.100.0.1044 update.

What’s odd is that this is not a Surface tablet, but a bog-standard Dell desktop.

There’s also other cruft that’s pretty puzzling:

      • HP – Printer – 4/22/2009 12:00:00 AM (my printer–which is much newer than 2009–has been installed for a while now)
      • Cypress Semiconductor Corporation – UCMCLIENT – 4/19/2017 12:00:00 AM – 1.1.0.33: (2017? why would this have started turning up in 2020, and does it even correspond to anything on my machine)
      • Dell Inc. – Monitor – 1/27/2016 12:00:00 AM – 1.0.0.0: (2016? really? and my monitor setup hasn’t changed lately))

I suppose if I let Windows Update try to install some of these, it would just abort the ones that weren’t actually relevant to my system, or were out of date compared to what I already have…

      …or would it?

On a Windows 10 Pro block Microsoft driver updates in GP.
On a home version do it manually.

Download drivers directly from OEM (Intel, nVidia, AMD, ….)

      How?

      cheers, Paul

      Easy.
