My Surface Laptop 3 running W11 was beginning to act strange when booting. I thought a reinstall of Windows would be appropriate.
I created the recovery USB drive and started the recovery, wiping all the files from the system. I got a message from the recovery process that it failed and nothing was changed. That was wrong. The system would no longer boot from the SSD. I thought the SSD was failing.
I have been running the Surface connected to the docking station. Out of a wild guess I disconnected the docking station and tried the restore operation again. It worked.
Something in the docking station, or the BIOS with the docking station connected, was preventing the restoration of the device.
