The Surface Go seems to be trying to hard to be a cheap device to compete with a even cheaper Chromebook. Its certainly not a iPad competitor because Windows lacks a lot of apps in its store to be any sort of iPad replacement. So I have to assume the $399 is to entice Chromebook people to buy into the Windows ecosystem. But then you basically have to buy a type cover costing at least $100 and realistically most will want the more expensive fabric one for $130. Now were talking you might as well upgrade to the better and bigger SSD and more RAM and now its not even close to competing with Chromebooks or iPads for that matter. Why didn’t Microsoft just create a nice smaller Surface Go with decent hardware like a Intel “m” series CPU and options for more storage? The base model is basically a teaser price which basically says yeah we reached that price point, but you really don’t want it. But then never provides a full hardware improvement in the more expensive model with a better CPU. No it carries over the same slow Pentium. … Why is it Microsoft manages to ruin a perfectly good product by somehow making it weak in one area?

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2018 at 10:58 am #209354Pretty much every week the good folks at ifixit send me an email and its interesting reading for those who have occasion to delve under the Hood/Bonnet and apparently aesthetics and performance are not its only woes: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft+Surface+Go+Teardown/111895
