Has anyone used SUMo–Software Update Monitor?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

I’ve used it.
What I don’t like about it is when you click to get an update it found, the links it points to rarely find the program.
I like Update Notifier better:

AskWoody LoungerJune 6, 2009 at 12:09 am #1163665I’ve been using Secunia [acronym=”Personal Software Inspector”]PSI[/acronym] and have been satisfied so far. It doesn’t catch all the programs I have though, but it seems to get the most common/popular ones.
Windows Secrets did an article a week ago about this subject. They mention some Shavlik thing, the online version of the Secunia scanner, and some Belarc thing.
I used to have a free program from BigFix years ago, but it seems they’ve gone totally commercial now.
Edit:
SPSI missed the update for foobar (have 0.9.6.0, current is 0.9.6.7) which Update Notifier caught. Also missed Java (have 6.0.13, current is 6.0.14). On the other hand, UN doesn’t list nearly as many programs as SPSI does.Edit 2:
SUMo saw that my 2.2.10 Apache is behind (currently 2.2.11) while SPSI hasn’t noticed yet. It also found an update to some generic Office component and some SoundMAX application (bundled with the audio drivers).
…And then it said Windows was behind, pointing at the location of the Migration Wizard. Since I’m using the Win 7 RC I’m not sure what it’s thinking…If there was some way to schedule a scan with SUMo then I’d use it side-by-side with SPSI and UN.

AskWoody PlusJune 14, 2009 at 9:58 pm #1164760I just updated SUMO to the latest release (I keep it around as a secondary source of updates but don’t use it often).
I noticed this new screen which came up in very small fonts:
In order to provide this free download, RelevantKnowledge software, provided by TMRG, Inc., a comScore, Inc. company, is included in this download. This software allows millions of participants in an online market research community to voice their opinions by allowing their online browsing and purchasing behavior to be monitored, collected, aggregated, and once anonymized, used to generate market reports which our clients use to understand Internet trends and patterns and other market research purposes. The information which is monitored and collected includes internet usage information, basic demographic information, certain hardware, software, computer configuration and application usage information about the computer on which you install RelevantKnowledge. We may use the information that we monitor, such as name and address, to better understand your household demographics; for example, we may combine the information that you provide us with additional information from consumer data brokers and other data sources in accordance with our privacy policy. We make commercially viable efforts to automatically filter confidential personally identifiable information and to purge our databases of such information about our panelists when inadvertently collected. By clicking Accept, you acknowledge that you are 18 years of age or older, an authorized user of this computer, and that you have read, agreed to, and have obtained the consent to the terms and conditions of the Privacy Statement and User License Agreement from anyone who will be using the computer on which you install this application. You can decline and the program will then present its standard TOS screen (which you must accept). However, I don’t know for certain that the RelevantKnowledge software wasn’t snuck onto my PC. So beware.
